Hi Guys. My friends was wondering if I am able to string his prince graphite. Unforunately I came upon a dilemma. Here is the picture of the grommets on the outside of the racket:

The grommets seem to be detached from each other. He says the racket is pretty old. The whole racket is pretty much like that except for the throat where the grommets seem to be proper.

    Is this safe to string?

Looks like someone pieced together some older grommets to put in his racket so they would fit. I think it will probably be safe but not too sure how good the grommets are.

i agree with Irvin. If the grommets and frame seem sound, string it up!

it's safe to string up. i had a 4 stripe POG where the hole spacing was just slightly different from the replacement POG grommet strip i was trying to install. the only way i could get the new grommet strips to fit properly was to make a few splices and cut the strip down to 2 or 3 pieces on each side. some versions of the late 80s POGs had slightly different spacing of the grommet holes.

In the beginning, the Prince Graphite had individual grommets. Each hole had an individual round grommet. This was before the advent of grommet strips. Looks to me like this racquet may be one of the oldies that was originally equipped with individual grommets. Someone removed those grommets and replaced them with pieces from a grommet strip that they had to cut apart. Effectively should be the same...may be slightly more weight.

The racket strung up nicely, although the grommets are a bit bent on the ends because of the pressure. That was bound to happen. Thanks for your reassurance guys. It's appreciated.
