is it true that serena withdrew from the olympics because she was scared for her safety of a possible terrorist attack or is this just a rumour ?

    1. she took 8 months off for knee surgery and her knee still isnt better yet after topnotch surgery and physical therapy on a world class athlete ?? if her knee is really hurting and it may be why is it taking so long to heal this isnt normal is it ?

    2. she seemed fine in the events this summer leading up except for the occasional pullout of matches with formidable opponents.

    3. she made comments earlier this year that if she felt her safety may be threatened in any way at the olympics she wouldnt go.

    4. if it was really a injury why isnt she still going to athens to support the team , but just not playing, is that allowed ?

mabye venus will pull out next when she tries to tie her shoelaces again over there, who knows ?? :D

    You mean Zena-Garrison phobic? :D

I would think she's either afraid or has an acting gig coming up. 8)

Who knows? She has pulled out of so many events, it would be a surprise if she hadn't pulled out.

After Wimbledon, it seemed she really wasn't sure about herself, her game the way she played the last two events,.

Sharapova will not come in Athens, I'm very sad for that, and Serena will not come in Athens because she want's to make practice for the US open.

My wild theory is that she is not going because of her knee injury. I know, I know, she had surgery on it, doctors told her not to play on it, and we saw her have the pain on court. Despite all the evidence that draws us to this conclusion, I agree with this conclusion.

I think she ought to do the WTA a favor and retire. To many injuries, and dropping fast in the rankings. ESPN still hypes both sisters, but it is time for them to hang it up.

Her easy draws are over since the 10 week injury grace period has expired, and lets face it other players on the tour are just better. Her style of play is no longer effective against top 10 players.

I'm no fan but i beg to differ strongly Baz. For a start she beat Mauresmo at Wimbledon, and she sits somewhere around 3 in the world, certainly top ten. All Serena has to do is have an injury free run for a bit and lookout, she's back in business. Tho the big W had two top players missing she did a helluva job getting to the final considering how little tennis she has played. She's still only young and has plenty of great tennis left in her. If she has any sort of run fitness wise she will surely win more grand slams. Kim and Justine haven't been around that much lately either, what if they cop some whuppings for a while? Retire? BTW i cheer against her all the time, but i still have to give her credit :)

Surely that Nike contract will keep Serena on the court for many years.

I'm not sure what you mean, but I hope you were referring to the olympics.

Camilio - You are quiet the out-of-the-box thinker. She is not playing because she is injured? Wow, that is really out there. Sure she had surgery on her knee and missed months while rehabbing, but her being injured, I am not quite sure.

Her doctor advised her about potential long term damage if she kept playing but that surely isn't the reason, is it. There must be something much more sinister. I am going to mull that over for a minute before I can agree with you.

Maybe I agree with the posters who say she should retire. After all, these are probably the same insightful geniuses who said that Agassi was washed up a couple of weeks ago. Yea, I think I am going with them. This year's Wimbledon finalist is washed up. She's got no game left at all.

you'll have to excuse rickson, even though you are in greece and most of world's top players are descending upon the city of athens for the olympics, he thought you might have meant the athens city championships in athens, georgia (usa)

    1. well she did have knee surgery over a year ago and took a whole 8 months off for rehab. either her or her doctors are doing something wrong for it not to heal if this is the case. even thomas muster came back a year later with much worse reconstructive knee surgery, serenas was probably just arthroscopic surgery mabye even on an outpatient basis.

    2. i dont think it matters if "her doctors" told her not to play on it. my knees are perfectly fine and i could find a doctor to tell me not to play on them. u can get a doctor to tell u anything u want to hear its just finding the right doctor.

    3. i dont think i really saw her have pain on the court during matches if i did it was only when she started falling behind in the score

    4. her sisters going to athens supposedly so why isnt serena going to support her if they're so close did "her doctors" say her knee was too injured to be a spectator too ?

Big Ted - 1. I agree with you, it certainly seems she has re-injured or aggravated it and I wouldn't rule out human error on her part or the doctors, either. Good point for her still being injured.
    2. That is consistent, if you believe that the doctors were incompetent, it's not hard to believe they lie. You would probably be an interesting juror in a medical malpractice case where there is dueling doctors' testimony flying around!
    3. I saw it along with the announcers, fans, and millions of TV viewers.
    4. If I was hurt, I'd certainly not be wasting my time at the Olympics, I'd be doing whatever I could to recover, especially if there is a shot at playing at the US Open.
I believe Serena and the doctors because there is no compelling reason to disbelieve them and also because of the pain she was having on the court. Your speculations are interesting and could even be true, I just don't think they are the more likely explanation than the simple one of injury that has been aggravated or re-injured.

Stathis, I didn't understand you because there's a big difference between coming in Athens and coming to Athens. The one you used refers to something other than arriving in Athens for the olympics.

You understood him very well. You just made a choice to be rude instead, and now you're being obnoxious. :x
