It looked like a new Prince racquet. I think it could have been an exo3 with a paintjob.

This doesn't look like a speedport. Look at the outside of the racket. There are no big holes and no 'insets' either. It is not the White for sure. It doesn't look like the EXO neither.

May or may not be an SP Black. I'd probably say yes though... she switched about the time she got injured.

You can see lead tape at 3X9 though.

It's most likely her prince 03 white with a paint job. look at how wide the frame is...

I used the prince 03 white before and that picture looks about it.

The speedport black is a lot thinner in the beam.

Yeah that's her prince 03 white.

It would be dumb to switch, since that racquet is really arm friendly already, she's used to it, and has had phenomenal results with it.

^^^Yes, they look very similar. She is using different strings now? Is it a full gut job?

No it isn't, the Black is a widebody racquet (25 MM in the middle).

The White has much, much bigger Speedport holes though.

    Maria's new racket.

The racket she is using is a new experimental frame. Prince is going to phase out the o series and go back to the standard grommets. This frame she is using is one of those frames. I have already seen the version of the new frames.

No, it's clearly a YT Radical Pro. Oh, and way to revive an old thread...

She has definitely been using been using a HEAD racquet. She even has a HEAD butt cap on her racquet with the HEAD ski tip logo removed.

^^^Yup. Agreed. I was watching one of her matches the other day on one of those sick 55 inch led TV's and you could clearly see the Head Butt Cap.

    As always, you the man!!

That is a horrible PJ... instead of painting it all black, they're trying to make it look like a half-assed EXO3 Black

Not really. Because it is a HEAD YT Radical Pro which uses white grommets. They are not going to paint the grommets and the Youtek Radical Pro grommets only come in white in that drill pattern.

New Head deal to be announced

I live in Moscow and one of the tennis pro's/stringers here (who is involved in Russia's Davis Cup team) said the deal between Sharapova and Head is to be announced shortly (everyone can see the racket she's using is a Radical with a black paint job and white grommets so that it looks like a Prince?!).

How about Berdych - why is he still down as using a Dunlop?

Because they're both still under contract. Sharapova's it supposed to last at least another 5 years, I thought...

It's my understanding that Maria has a lifetime contract with Prince. Don't really know if that means that she can never publicly switch to Head. BTW, she still carries a Prince racquet bag.

Does anyone know exactly why Maria stopped using the SP Black? Was it too stiff for her shoulder? Was it cuz Prince decided to replace the SP Black with the ExO3 Black and Maria, like many of us, were disappointed with the newer frame? It seems that they "fixed" some of the quirkiness of the SP Black but it fails in other respects. Is Maria still promoting the ExO3 Black even tho' she's clearly not using it?

I noticed that the Bryan bros also switched from the SP Black to another racquet rather than using the ExO3 Black. Their new racquet of choice is the Prince EXO3 Ignite Team 95. A bit lighter, smaller and less stiff than their old SP Blacks and the new ExO3 Black -- but not as light as the ExO3 Black Team frame. However, even tho' it is a bit lighter, the SW that TW shows for the Ignite Team 95 is higher than that of the ExO3 Black.

Bryans didn't have to choose between the two Blacks. You can see from the Prince website that lots of Prince players use racquets no longer made. Bartoli used a racquet two generations obsolete until a few months ago. And "lifetime" contracts are voided routinely if both parties agree to it. Prince likely wouldn't object too strenuously now that a generation of female pros has arrived that hit as well as Maria but move much better.

Bartoli, incidentally, switched to the Exo Black, as did Zvonareva before reaching a slam final recently.

Prince would save itself close to $20 million dollars if Maria opted out (on a 20 year, $25 million deal).

She's a household name (or nearly so), but how prince is able to recoup $20 million plus profit if she remains with prince is beyond me.

Celebrity culture has little to do with talent, so losing the most marketable tennis player in the world can be a problem. Another poster has however suggested Prince is in difficulty so an asset becomes an opportunity to sell.

    We Hear—

--- that Maria Sharapova has switched from Prince to Head rackets. Recently, she was using rackets with no logo on the strings.
