Usually, when siblings all play tennis, one is the better/best. For instance, Marat Safin was a much player player than his sister Dinara, Kim Clijsters is a much much better player than her sister Elke, Agnisa (sp?) Radwanska is a much better player than her sister Ursula (sp?). I think Serena is a much better player than Venus, as seeming how Venus had 13 double faults today. Do you agree?

Agreed. Neither Williams sister has the most technical of games but Venus has more weaknesses in that dept than Serena does i.e. forehand, serve (particularly the 2nd serve).

You left out Chrissie and her sister Claire who played on the tour briefly in the 70's.

Serena is the better player. Especially on the slower surfaces.

Serena has dominated at points like Venus never did; she has all four Slams, and Venus doesn't; yeah, she's better.

OK, I was born in 1984 so I don't know about those players from the 70's like you do. :D

Both are great players of course. However Serena has won 8 slams to Venus's 5 despite being over a year younger. Serena has won all 4 grand slams atleast once, Venus has never won the Australian or French Opens. Serena has won 3 slams in a year once, carrying on to winning 4 slams in a row for a non-calender slam, while Venus has never won more then 2 in any given year.

So I think Serena has to be recognized career wise as the better player right now without question. Venus is still great of course, she was a major force through all of 99-2003 imparticular, and is still capable of sneaking up and winning any event she enters no matter her ranking. Her 2000 year was something special in its own right. However Serena is still clearly over her when comparing their careers.

Also if we are talking about right now, while Venus has had a couple nice tournaments early this season, Serena by far seems the better player right at this moment. I think Serena might always carry the advantage from now to the day they retire, both are unpredictable at this point, but I am not sure I ever see Venus reaching a point she is closer to the top of the game then Serena ever again until one retires. Even if I am wrong on that part(and I could be) I much more highly doubt regardless Venus will ever catch up to Serena's career to the point it is even at all debateable which is better.

I just hope Venus's own greatness is not undervalued because she is less great then her sister though. That must be hard on her, as much as she loves her sister. That is the reality though.

Venus's second serve is a major flaw of her game. Serena probably has the best second serve on tour when she is in top form. Both have some technical issues on the forehand, but Venus's are far more severe then Serena. Other then that they share alot of the same attributes to similar extremes.

Don't forget the Bryan brothers, who are twins, but oddly enough Bob would smoke his brother.

Don't forget their mentality - Serena almost always wants to win more than Venus does and she is willing to scrape, fight and claw her way to victory. Serena also has a superior return of serve, though Venus has better footspeed/movement and changes direction with greater ease.

venus has won the last couple of matches between them, and there 7-7 lifetime, but personally, i think venus, she has a little better net game, slightly bigger ground strokes, is quicker, and has a better tennis body. serena may be the better competitor, and have a more reliable serve. its still early in the year though, so time will tell.

Michael Chang also had a older brother who was briefly on the professional tour. No problem figuring out who's the superior tennis player there.

There were a few Sanchez's, Maleeva's, and Guildemeisters also.

Why did you compare Marat to Dinara?! That's an unfair comparison! Anyway! I think Serena and Venus are not too far apart.

    Agreed.

Venus has the advantage in having more skill at net than Serena--the latter can play at net, but I believe Venus to have the better hands there.
