^^Looks like the medical tape I get from Walgreens to prevent blisters in the winter. Clothe medical tape I think.

I'm a Yonex noob but are those CAP like grommets on there and do all the V cores have those.

Hey PED I suspect the tape is to flare the buttcap as the Yonex runs a little narrow. That is to say if he's using a Yonex molded handle. My own experience with a pro stock Yonex with tk57 pallet was that the buttcap was custom also to fit. On the photo they look like wider Head pallets but the front one looks more even like a Yonex mold....

As for Cap like grommets, no, but they are fairly substantial.....

The shape of the yoke in yonex and not head.

Meaghan is referring to the shape of the handle.

He says that some of the frames on the picture look like they could have a custom handle with a rectangular typical for Head racquets shape.

yeah its prob my eyes and the angle but some of those sticks look to have the wider top bevel ala Head, the one out the wrapper looks very Yonex.

I would be surprised that he would change grip shape from what he was used to at Head.

Today I got to try the Vcore Tour 97, and looking at this photo of Nalbaldian, the head shape looks quite a bit like this one. It is more oval, not so isometric as the Vcore 95 or 98.
Not a chance that Wawrinka is playing with the Vcore Tour, based on the photos on this thread.

Watching tomic play starace on tv...beam looks thin. Hard to tell. Bernards shot selection is outrageously awesome in this match...it looks like he is practicing.

Not quite. The grommets are 2 pieces that run the length of the frame (imo, very nice feature). Instead of splitting at the head, they split at the color shift on the top of the frame. I haven't taken mine apart yet for fear I won't get it back to square but these look like a royal pita to replace because of the strange flare at the bottom of the throat for some of the groms.

Vcore replacement grommets do not have flares and not a big deal to replace - you just need an awl.

Hmm. Interesting. Frankly, I don't think it will be an issue. The groms are so nicely flared you really need to do something funky to mess them up.

Worst thing about Yonex was the handle shape, it doesnt taper toward the butt cap it's straight, then the flex was all wrong so yes I like the frames , the quality is terrific but ultimately, I think there are a lot of pros using paintjobs in spite of the isometric head shape, I mean look at the Nalbandian photos, no way is that any frame Yonex ever made

Difficult to paint job a groove in the throat dont you think......nevermind a hexagonal beam..........the deception is unreal, I dont know how they make my eyes see a square headshape instead of a circle

Also as for flex, buttcaps and handle molds, these are all suited to the individual pro.

As Dekko was pointing out, the newer tour frames are a little rounder (thats why he posted Nalbandians stick) also the paint at 8&4 gives the impression that its a flowing arch.

    ???

what are you talking about? how is it that you see anything but
a yonex frame when you look at nalbandian's sticks. what other company
makes frames that shape? the head shape clearly looks similar to the
more rounded isometric yonex sticks like the TI-80 and vcore tours

Part of me wants to say "of course they are..." what else would you use if you were contracted to Yonex? But is it more likely that Yonex is trying to stimulate a little excitement around the replacement for the RDiS 200 by having one of its players hit a blacked out frame?

Stan really leads up his racket.

Still looks to me like he could be using the 95

EDIT: Silly me, he is using the 97/97 PJ now. However, his frame looks a little boxier to me.

Also, came upon this. Yonex now lists Wawa as using the 97.

No chance that's the 97. 97 has more of an oval shaped head. That looks too square, like the Vcore 95.

That LOOKS like a bigger difference than just 95 vs. 98 to me. More like the difference between an 89 and 97 or between a 95 and 100, IMO.

I don't know but does Wawrinka's frame look that much bigger relative to the size of the ball as compared to Federer's? Can anyone confirm that Wawrinka is definitely not using the VCORE T89?

I still don't understand why yonex would advertise something he's not using. A yonex is a yonex, why does it matter to them if he is using the 95 the 97 or the 98?

However, here the head doesn't look as boxy here. I swear every time I look at these rackets they look different each time.

Stan was hitting some big shots against Fed, too bad he couldn't pull through. The Yonex does seem to be working for him.

Hey guys, I'm new to this so sorry if I do not get it right the first time. I don't believe Wawrinka is using the 95 D. Look at these pictures....

Doesn't Stan's racquet look a bit wider then the 95D? Not saying he's using the tour 97 but let me know what you guys think :)

Wawrinka is using the 95D Yonex for sure.
The throat area grommets (lowest horizontal grommet in head) from 95D Yonex have 3 pairs of strings in them, whereas the more recent 97 Tour and 89 Tour have 4 pairs of strings.

That can be seen on the images already posted in this tread or

I only did my research on Wawrinka, because I personally like his style of play, very much.
I don't know about the others.
Maybe someone else would figure it out.

    Good call on the grommets!!

    95 it is... Pity they're discontinuing them. I like my 95s a lot but I wouldn't mind a 97T paint job...

Yeah, same. It's the first frame other than a radical or prestige that felt just right. No adjustment, just a seamless transition. My only complaint is the paint job-- chips galore. Other than that, amazing frame.

Unfortunately, though, they're done with it after 1 year...

Unfortunately, I don't think it's a matter of bringing anything out-- the Ts are the replacement. I hit with the 89T and it was... disheartening (read turrible, turrible)

Pity no one can make a good ~90sq in stick anymore (aside from the prestige)

I've always been a fan of small head frames especially since I last had my prestige mids. I was super excited ever since I've become a member of the Yonex family for the open pattern 89 but Even at 48lbs (my usual tension) with my poly of choice the frame just felt horribly average. I didn't find anything special to it, nor were my balls doing anything. If anything, they were landing pretty short. My hitting partner wasn't impressed at all.

Thinking it was just me, I let him hit with them. He's played Prestige mids all his tennis career at similar tension and has an absurd amount of topspin on his strokes. To give you a better gauge of his style of hitting, he usually hits within 2' of the back of the baseline. With the 89t, his ball was landing 5+ feet in the court and simply didn't have the jump of his usual strokes. Neither of us really found anything special tagging the ball flat, or serving with it either. It was a pretty big let-down for the both of us.
