Yellow, yellow everywhere! Have you all noticed how much yellow is in evidence at the AO this year -- in both the men's and women's outfits.

Yellow is 2009's colour, according to the fashion world. Supposedly even yellow lipstick will be a trend.

^ Thnx for the feedback/insight. Was beginning to think that Rafa was using the yellow as a highlight color to match his racket color. Another theory was that others had adopted the bright yellow colors to "hide" the ball -- make it more difficult for the opponent to see it when the yellow ball was in front of (or near) a yellow background. There's no mystery to it. Yellow is the traditional color of Australia. It's like everybody wearing white at Wimbledon

That would make sense, but why not green also? Anyway I haven't been playing long enough to have seen the previous color choices for tennis, but yellow is pretty cool.

The fashion industry historically favors brighter colors in difficult economic times, as it feels people want to be cheered up. Formal colors like black and purple are more common in better economic times. The exception is LONG periods of economic struggle, as they then have to simply change shades eventuallly to churn sales. Look for the same colors on cars in a year or two -- the auto industry usually lags a year or two behind the fashion industry as it wants people to get used to seeing those colors before putting them on something as large as a car (they feel the consumer better accepts colors he's seen on clothing for a year or two). (Source: a marketing book I read some years ago, don't recall the title).

I wouldn't want to be wearing black in Oz during the day.
