This is the reason Chris Evert and others said (during the ESPN AO 2012 broadcast) without hesitation--that Sharapova had to be relieved she would not have to face Serena. The history makes the reason painfully clear.

...but we know the Wonder Trolls will ignore your post--and the ESPN commentary to continue their little self-deception routine.

    Indeed.

I think Clijsters would beat Hingis more often than not, don't you think so?

Steely glaze! Intense eyes! Real hair and nails! It screams, passion! Passion! Passion! This is the face I, and other objective fans, want to see as the representative of The WTA.

Get her a stable serve and groundstrokes then.

No true fan has a desire to see a player with poor movement, strategy and a one-dimensional game (not to mention a horribly spotty record at the majors) as the representative of the WTA. Fans love serious majors winners...not half-asses who lose to every generation she faces...

...much like no one truly concened with seeing real leadership in the White House would ever nominate a cud-chewing, lobotomized fool like Rick "me-not-know-nothing-about-government" Perry, hence his well-deserved comedic collapse.

No, I'm simply stating at this point Maria has more chance than Serena, who's 30 yr old. Serena even stated that she's not in love with tennis which question her future motivation/desire. She may announce her retirement earlier than we expected. Meanwhile Maria has done well lately and she was only 1 match away from winning it all. She's playing better than before when she was still recovering after her shoulder injury. We'll see...if Maria can keep this level up there no reason not to believe she can win again. Anyone who write her off is blind by hatred.

Of course the USO incident was an embarrassment and we praise that it will never happen again. Women's tennis is bad enough already and we don't need Serena to make it worse. Fans, line judges, umpire, players should feel safe out there, not terrify.

Since thundervolley trashed Maria's Wimbledon results, I ask him how does that compare to Serena at the FO when she hasn't done nothing after 2002. Added that Maria is 24 having more oppotunities to gain in the future. I've ask him a few times already and he can't answer my question except avoiding it by bringing up Federer(LOL!). He act as it's for sure Maria will win nothing in the future. But we know what happen when he trashes Nole when he was a one slam wonder....

Not once has Maria Sharapova brought the game into disrepute.

I've lost count the number of times Serena Williams has given the sport a black eye!

It's also a good thing that tennis is a non-contact sport. Because if it is, Serena would likely to give her apponent a black eye if she loses. LOL

True, but her appalling screeching han't exactly done the game any favours either. It's probably the main reason why so many of us can never quite take to her despite her obvious talent and fighting spirit.

Is she any lousier than 90% of the women players out there? She at least made a final and a semi which is far more then the vast majority of them can boast.
Should they all retire as well??

No one cares. Ali was a controversial figure in with his political positions, but he's considered the greatest of all boxers.

Why? Boxing fans do not give a damn about anything other than his talent and results.

John McEnroe's anger, threats and occasionally boorish antics were controversial around the world, but that did not hurt tennis--in fact, it helped elevate the general public interest in men's tennis that has not been seen since, and he's still considered one of the all-time great players.

This is not the country club, paddycake fantasy you wish it to be.

Grow up....or continue living in Disneyland (or the realm where people believe Rick Perry had a chance to be president).

Re: Sharapova....ask yourself why she's incapable of dominating her generation--or the newbies. Why she's sold as a contender by delusional ideologues (like you), but her skills never warrant the propaganda spewed by your ilk.

I doubt you will be honest, but the statement needed to be posted.

You must have reading comprehension issues, since i've already slapped you with the facts several pages ago: historically, proven success at Wimbledon means more to overall status, and Sharapova is not in the elite class of Martina, Graf, Venus & Serena. Her form is inferior, thus she was a fluke/shock winner and--moving forward at the event--could not grasp what it means to play on grass beyond that lucky run. She has never repeated there (or at any other major, for that matter).

She is not one of the greatest at the greatest major.

    That is the truth.

Live with it, or continue sobbing all over your keyboard.

Believe it or not, some are taken with the sound that emits from her luscious red lips. They turn the volume on 8, the minute she steps on the court.

Whatever dude. But getting fine, probation, suspended due to her outburst at the USO paints a bad image. Serena can never be a role model, even if she win 50 slams.

Silly you...if threaten to kill someone would elevate public interest then Serena would continue her horrific tantrums year after year.

Stop pedaling the myth that Venus Ebony Williams and Serena Jameka Williams are in the same elite class as Martina Navratilova and Steffi Graf historically. You do that quite often and you are being intellectually dishonest.

As most Williams fans, you always try to attempt embellish the Williams sisters careers in order to make them more favorably historically.

It just isn't going to happen.

Maria has a few years left to make her stamp on history. The Compton twins do not.

Serena Williams has never been good for women's tennis. She's a bad role model for young people and the sport.

And that's really the point, isn't is Danny?

Its why Maria is rewarded by Nike with the largest contract in women's sports, and Serena wasn't. Yep, you betcha!

Maria Sharapova holds Nike's biggest endorsement for a women in sports history.

Honestly Nadalagassi I dont know where you get your tiers from. You do realize shes recovering from a career ending soldier injury right? Has had other injuries and still pushed to finals and semis. Where was cljisters, serena and venus?

Pretty simple. Players achievments, overall careers, and legacies. If my tiers is wrong name me one thing you would change and why. I can easily explain exactly why I ranked everyone where I did.

Oh please, her shoulder surgery was FOUR years ago now. She has been back for 3 years. It is time to drop this comeback BS. She is either good enough or she isnt anymore. She had 3 good chance to win slams in the last year and blew them all playing like crap and failing to adjust when her game was off. That is not poor injured Maria, that is being mentally weak and one dimensional.

Yes with a minor miracle she could still climb to the lofty historic heights of Davenport or Wade level greatness before she hangs up her racquet. Even that seems unlikely at this point though.

Do you not realise how talented Maria is! If not for her injury she'd likely have 5-8 GS, and those achieved via grit and determination without physical advantages we know the Williams have.

I see a bit of the same fierce competitor like Lleyton Hewitt. Thats something that got her through matches when everything else was subpar after recovering from surgery, including her service which has gradually gotten better over the past 3 years.

If not for the growth hormones she likely was given in her early to mid teens she would have won no slams.

This is not meant as a "troll" but I don"t get the "grit and determination" stuff that I hear about Sharapova all the time. Her shrieking puts me off so I do not watch a lot of her matches so please explain to me why she has that reputation. The matches that I have seen are her 2 recent slam finals which are not too impressive because she doesn't seem to make any adjustments in her game to try to change the momentum. Is there a match that she played where she fought back when she was down and out that could help me figure it out? Thanks.

Speaking of pretentious 'you betcha' tripe, it seems like the TW gatekeepers cleaned house (outhouse in this case) and very much for the better. As for Sharapova, anointing someone with a 2-7 record vs Serena as "throne worthy" represents the silly little things silly little troll wannabes are made of.

Because MotherMarjorie aka TwistedTranny was insane.

Well done mods, yep you betcha!

Re: Maria, It only just occured to me how consistent she has been over the last 12 months, I was quite suprised.

Even she can stableise her wonky serve and add a smidgin of safety on her groundstrokes, maybe she can win a slam again?

Im not holding my breath, but it could be possible!

The same reason why people who do not like Pres. Obama call him Barack Husein Obama. To point out the ethnic sounding of his middle name to further inflame his detractors. There was no other reason to repeatedly use Serena's and Venus' middle name other than this. Only those who dislike the sisters because of their ethnicity or who realized what MM was doing got it. I'm glad that you didn't get it.

    NOOOOOOOOOOO!

    1. She has surgery in 2008 - Almost 4 years ago.

    2. Rehabbed for months and came back in Miami 09 (doubles) and singles just before FO, again that is ALMOST 3 YEARS CONSISITENTLY PLAYING ON THE TOUR! The recovery period is definitely over.

    3. Maria has always been smarter than most and not played a tournament with any obvious injury, she either pulls out beforehand to heal or will withdraw immediately (rightly so). Name a time when you have ever seen Maria play with strapping on her body. So she was healthy when she made those finals. Kim/Serena/Venus have played a lot more matches injured.

No logical poster can still use that as if it is impeding her today.
