It's probably a good thing that Federer lost in Madrid

If Nadal had lost, then he would be much more on alert for the French. Now he would be more relaxed.

That gives a chance for Federer to go for broke in FO final. Nadal should still pull it off, but it would be much harder for him.

I respectfully disagree. He got outplayed last year, so he would be hungry to reclaim the title back.

    uh?

It should be harder for Nadal to win RG because he beat Federer in Madrid?

That makes no sense whatsoever. Nadal won't be relaxed at the French, especially not against Federer. And he'll win the FO this year too.

I am not a fan of Nadal but the last thing you can call Nadal is that he is "relaxed" or will take things easily. He is going to play each point like it is a match point and this is what will win him RG this year.

He has reduced the number of clay events he enters with his goal to win back the biggest clay tournament event (and all big clay events this year), he won't be "just relaxed", he will want to rip apart the field (although he won't say it to the press).

Well if you're a Federer fan I guess you have to try and see a loss as a good thing. Especially lately.

Yes yes. Federer obviously tanked in order to lull Nadal into false sense of security for RG...I swear *******s are getting dumber with every post.

Federer losing was a bad thing. Nadal will feel comfortable playing Federer (as he always does on clay) and Federer will be under twice as much pressure to retain his title and beat Nadal in the final (let alone make it there!) No im not a Nadal or Federer '****'. I know the OP was thinking like Kooyong 07 when Roddick won, but he neglects two facts. 1. French open is on clay not hard and 2. he is playing Nadal not roddick.

But of course it's a good thing that Feddy lost. It's always good when Feddy loses. I do hope that some gulbis will kick him out of RG in Round 3, he'll lose his No.1 ranking and will be sobbing bitterly together with his offspring.

Did you saw Nadal's level of play in Monte Carlo. Why? Because he was so desperate after nearly a year without any title he was tremendous.

His level in Rome and then in Madrid dropped.

Nadal would still win FO I think but had he played like Monte Carlo he would rip the filed away.

The reason Nadal's level dropped in Madrid/Rome is that he finally won a title, so he was playing percentage tennis and saving his body and energy. Why go for every point and win 6-0 6-1 when you can just break the guy a couple of times and win 6-4 6-4? Federer, even in his peak rarely destroyed people at masters. He would just break once and hold serve. Nadal was doing the same. I am sure he'll be playing like a demon in RG.

It's best to just ignore him. I've been weeding out this little green troll for a couple of days now yet he still continues...I'm sure it's only a matter of time before the ban-stick is handed to him. :)

The Loss gives Fed a chance to reevaluate his equipment, and bring a bigger racket to Roland Garros.

Nadal is simply the better player. Accept that Fed is not the GOAT and never was and never will be, unless he narrows the 7-14 tally.

I humbly agree with the disagreement. Nadal wants...needs...the French Open back inspite of all the 'not obssessed with the French Open' comments he has made.

I also disagree that Federer's recent lost at Madrid final is a 'good thing', but will say that it's really not as bad as many would like it to be.
