    from Associated Press:

Atlantic City, N.J. (AP) -- Ivan Lendl will play his first
exhibition since he retired from tennis 16 years ago in a new
    Atlantic City event.
Organizers announced Tuesday that the first Caesars Tennis
Classic will be played April 10 at Boardwalk Hall.
Lendl will play former nemesis Mats Wilander, while Andy
Roddick will face recently retired Marat Safin. A third match
    will be announced later.
Caesars says it will donate equipment to Arthur Ashe Youth
Tennis and Education. The group runs programs for 6,500
children in various cities, including Atlantic City, Camden and
    Philadelphia.

Thought he could not play anymore because he had done his back in.

I to thought his back kept him from playing, but at the same time I am very glad he will be playing. I was born after his real prime but I have seen a lot of his matches on tape and he was just amazing to watch, so glad he will be playing, hopefully it gets some kind of coverage even if its just scoring through the internet

I thought back and also preoccupied with managing his daughters' golf careers. Perhaps they've given up or are old enough to have moved away from his wrangling.

Still a surprise after all this time tough. Perhaps it's the stock market!

Lendl has been in or around tennis a little more of late i guess, it'll be great to see, really really hope someone internet streams it.

As for his back ... I guess it prevents him from regular play and serious training, not a one off I guess.

Tell you one thing, last year Mats played an exo against Cash at the AO, Mats would want to play a LOOOOT better than that, he was fairly terrible. Cash's game has translated to modern equipment and power, Mats' not nearly so much.

Sorry to be off topic a little but I thought Safin couldn't get far enough away from the game right now.

Great to see Lendl pick up a racquet again. The guy was my idol after Borg retired.

I wonder if Ivan will be using an adidas frame... I mean a new one, not a GTX!

I wonder if he will crack a smile on court. Something he was unable to do from 1978-1994

He was the ultimate professional. Like Sampras, Agassi, Even Federer in tough matches, there's not much that's funny, it's all about getting the job done.

He was p-funny in interviews, press-cons, etc.

Its unfortunate that people thought he was a robot. He's supposedly a really funny guy and was a pratical joker in the locker room.

I never thought he was a robot, I actually liked him. He just whined too much on court and any emotion he did show - which was not as infrequent as some would think - was always of the negative variety.

I'm curious how Lendl plays since I understand his back really hurts him if he plays. He's also gained a lot of weight so I wonder what his level of play will be.

All that lsting means is that those players used Bosworth for customization at some point in their careers - not that they're Bosworth racquet users. Here's what the copy on the website says: "The following Grand Slam Champions and top ranked tennis professionals have all, at some point in their careers, turned to Bosworth Tennis for custom fitting and racquet customization. Bosworth has custom fitted clients to over 100 Grand Slam titles." Nothing about any of these players using a Bosworth frame (Navratilova is the only one on here I know of that's played a Bosworth racquet) - and, of course, we know that most of the players listed are or were under contract to other racquet manufacturers.

I guess Lendl might use a Bosworth frame for his exo, but it seems highly unlikely to me.

We will rate him a 4.0 on this forum, if you post a video of his match with wilander :)

    Lendl

I have not seen lendl OR wilander hit a ball in many, many years...(as opposed to others like Mac, connors, borg)....have to wonder how good their form is. And, yes, Ivan definitely has put on the pounds...but that will happen when U R not out there playing, obviously.

Wish they would announce the 3rd match; trying to decide if it is worth $75, plus tolls gas and the inevitable $$$ I will lose at the casinos

Wilander plays on the Outback and other senior tour events quite often. You can see him play on the tennis channel as well. Just look for the replay of the Cabo Outback event from last year. Still hits a pretty nice ball.

Great overview on Lendl's career and Bosworth

    http://bosworthtennis.com/pages/stories.html

    Click the Ivan Lendl link

I was a USTA umpire for the WCT Finals in Dallas so I saw him practice and play in his prime. Maybe the first true power player he was "machine like" in his stroking consistency, very fast with wicked topsin and angles, along with a huge flat and kick serves.
He could attack or defend - check his record, one of the most consistent and dominant players of all time, despite a lack of "flair", he was a serious and great competitor. I hope we get to see him on the Sr Tour.

    Does anyone know the surface?

I heard he can't play on a hard court, because of insurance money he is collecting.

Don't know if there is any truth to that.

I bet Lendl plays better golf than tennis, . . . these days.

Where did you hear that? I actually have wondered whether his lack of playing might be due to that as well, though it was idle speculation on my part, I hadn't heard anything about it. It certainly would not be unprecedented...Stich also had trouble with insurance after retiring. Ivan never hid the fact that moolah was of the utmost importance to him. It would hardly surprise me if he had a good insurance payout worked out, and he would have been happy to sit back and collect it, if he could just play his golf! His back was surely not good enough for the tour anymore, but I suspect he could have played the seniors tour or exhibitions had he really wanted to!

The fact that his back is now mysteriously better at age FIFTY, only makes me more suspicious!

My buddy was telling me that his friend owns a club that Lendl would come to visit, and that every time he was there insurance people would be around with cameras hoping to catch pics of him on court so they could void the payout.

But really, heard through the grapevine friend of a friend thing, so I have no idea as to the truth of the matter, was just curious.

It is too bad you did not go through and read the whole site and click on the Ivan lendl tab and read the last paragraph. So you missed this "In racquet testing with Bosworth Tennis for his current racquet set-up, Lendl declares his Bosworth Tour 96 as “simply the greatest racquet I’ve ever hit with, period.”
That is why it is my belief that Lendl will be using the Bosworth Tour 96.

Also there is a page on Stepanek and about his Bosworth Tour 96 but you missed that also.

Damn i hope adidas brings back the shirt in the above post!

Was one of my favourite shirts ever, in fact, perhaps as a lendl fan, many of the lendl 80s shirts are on my list of favourites...

It is interesting how Lendl has his Bosworth Tour 96 painted the same silver color as his old Adidas GTX Pro-T
