I've never met ONE person who likes Andy Murray - and I'm from Britain!!

Watched the French Open coverage on British Eurosport and never heard Annabel saying anything like that. If she did, then I am extremely disappointed she could come out with anything so insulting and stupid. Who the hell does she think she is? Like SHE ever achieved anything on a tennis court! Those who can't (play tennis) commentate.... and evidently like to criticise those who can.

I think Murray is past caring what they say. His response to Virginia's comments was far more dignified than anything she and evidently Annabel had to say.

  3. Its a joke if you don't know. Watch the whole video!

I truly hope so, Mainad. If not Rafa, I'm always rooting for Murray (or Ferrer, or Fed.)

Exactly. I don't know who this Anabel Kong is but she sounds like a pretentious judgmental twit.

Murray went through a lot of crap as a kid, and as an adult. Always carrying the weight of the responsibility bestowed upon him by those who can't meet it. And then getting screwed by the English press over and over.

I have to agree, the majority of people I know don't like him for various reasons.

Most of the people in my family and friends are mild fans who watch the big tournaments, but don't follow the game that closely. They are all Roddick and Nadal fans.

Personally Roddick and Nadal are my two least favourite players, whilst Murray is my favourite. Him being British helps, but I love his brand of tennis more than anything else. The changes of pace, slices, lobs, putting the oppoenent in the position they least want to be on the court etc.. He makes me think about what it is i'm watching more than any other player, I like that.

That's where I draw the line, believe me.

But yes, she is amazingly hot for her age still.

    Here's Raquel at age 70:

If you say croft did nothing worthy in tennis, which is a tad unfair, and that former players can't commentate you might want to inform the BBC that they shdnt employ JM, LD et al.
However, by your own point of 'achieving' then you would presumably agree Wade, as a 3 time major champion, that her point is valid.
You can't have it both ways.

Andy Murray has got to be the ugliest grand slam champion in men's tennis history. Has anyone ever looked at Murray's vampire teeth yuck! He's definitely the ugliest guy in the top 10 easy.

I find it that those who don't follow tennis and are British tend to support Murray because they are just being mindless patriotic, and those who actually follow or play tennis closely rarely supports him. I live in the UK and this is true experience.

I'm really surprised to hear that Britain isn't fully behind Murray. As far as i'm concerned, he seems like a nice guy, perhaps a bit reserved but that doesn't matter. Tennis wise however, i'm sorry but he just doesn't do it for me. Most of his matches are a total bore for me. I hope that someone beside Djokovic will show up in slam finals should he make some again. With a different style, the matches he's involved in might become more interesting.

It's the samething in Canada. All my work colleagues who are clueless about the game always come up to me to tell me with admiration that Raonic, our "Canadian Hero" has won a match, or this Canadian player did this and that....
They're always surprised when I tell them that I could careless about Raonic or even Canadian tennis, i'm not patriotic. It's not because a canadian is playing tennis that he becomes my idol, all my tennis idols were either american or swiss :), nationality doesn't matter.

I agree. I don't see a problem with Murray really. He seems to be getting better at not grabbing at every body part he has when he's losing, and I've started to like him a lot more since he has tempered his shouting at himself on court.

Regarding Raonic I also agree. I really don't care all that much for the guy. His game totally bores me, and when people ask me who I cheer for when Federer plays Raonic and I say Federer no questions asked, they look at me like I have 50 heads. I just tell them "Listen I don't care that Raonic is Canadian, I've liked Federer much longer." The only time I'd cheer for Raonic over Fed would be in Davis Cup.

Everyone is behind Murray, he's virtually guaranteed a knighthood and is increasingly charming and personable, now he's accomplished some of the things he's put so much pressure on himself to achieve.

I am a big Andy Fan. I am an Indian origin guy who does not favor British sports. English team is the last thing I support on this planet in any sport. But I am a serious Andy Fan. I like his game so much. I follow most of his matches. I was supporting him from the time when he did not have any slam to now being YOUR WIMBLEDON CHAMP. He is a great talented player and his game is easy to copy. I like players who make the game look easy. Andy is one of those. Nadal complicates the game so much by his style of Play. Fed is pure talent and not everyone can play like him. But he is the next thing after Andy to make the game look simple.

I think people look for some extra ordinary thing in a tennis pro hence they do not admire his game much. The difference is like in movie stars, some like the fake and out of world looking starts and actress. But some like simple girl next door look. Andy's game is like this girl next door look. A simple game with lots of brain behind it and now at the peek of success, whether you agree it or not.

Not directly. It's all about the prestige, but depending on what you do, that brings new opportunities.

I don't think it would make much of a difference to Murray, because he's already a very high profile athlete. It's probably worth more to the likes of Sir Chris Hoy or Dame Kelly Holmes, to keep the opportunities coming in after they retire from sport.

As for the OP's assertion that he doesn't know anyone who likes Murray, he's either led a very sheltered life and knows hardly anyone, or the people he does know are all the hateful sort. Perhaps my friends and associates are much nicer, because most of them like him, and the proper tennis fans like him more than the casuals. The only ones who are critical don't follow tennis, and still think he hates the English etc.:?

No-one in the public eye is universally loved, but being objective, the Royal Mail are bringing out commemorative stamps for his Wimbledon victory, which they wouldn't do if only eight people, including his family, liked him. Some bookies have stopped taking bets for him to win Sports Personality of the Year (publicly voted award for favourite athlete held every December) because they expect him to win.

I know you can argue these things are about Wimbledon, or whatever other excuses you might dream up, but there are definitely a lot of people who like him.

This is funny because I was talking to a nurse I work with just the other night and she's Irish and can't stand Murray. I'm not his biggest fan either, but she just straight up hates him. It's pretty entertaining talking to her. She'll get on him for all the times when he grabs his ankle and other various body parts like he's in pain.

Ironic that when I was in UK everyone wanted him to win, 17+ million watched him in the UK to win Wimbledon....all over the pubs ect.

I like the guy because when he gets upset he's not some PC wimp about it.

Who the heck decided to bump this thread? The OP is a notorious troll, now thankfully banned, with a crazed, obsessive hatred of Murray. All his previous aliases (eg. tennis-fan-182, passive-aggressive etc.) were banned too and for the same reason.

People posting, "I don't like Murray because he's ugly" are just desperately clutching at any straw they can find in order to trash him, now that they can't sneer at him any longer for not winning a Slam, not winning Wimbledon etc.

Time to send this silly, failed thread into the cyber-vault along with all the other failed threads!

ugliness is not criteria to rate any player
Murray got talent so he deserves respect
if he have peaked between 2004 - 2007 without fed
he would have 10 slams minimum
2 slams in such a competition is a difficult task

    He's growing on me...

Now with the changing of the guard, Murray and Djokovic are always going to be in the thick of things and taking the lion's share of the majors.

I previously was of the mindset that Novak's dynamic game was indicative of his incredible talent and that Murray's "boring" game was just "pushing". Had a very insightful conversation with a person in tennis sports marketing that tweaks my thinking a bit.

The gist of his opinion, was that Novak only can play one way, whereas Andy can beat people a multitude of ways, whether it be pushing, attacking, even with a net game. And that if Novak is playing only at 80%, he loses these matches, where Murray at 80% still has enough variety in his game to win. His other comment was that Murray is athletically talented enough to be a pro in anything he wants to do. Obviously a broad generic statement, but you can probably think of many tennis pros who would are only tennis pros due to years of repetition.

I had a chance to watch Murray practice, and one thing that really struck me, was especially on his backhands, he was really wristy and flipping the racquet using wrists instead of the larger muscle groups. And putting the ball on a dime. A great sign of his athletic talent and feel. The other 3 have it as well, I'm now seeing it.

I would have said a few months ago that Novak would always be ahead of Andy in #'s of Grand Slams, but after seeing how human Novak is when he is just only slight off, is making me question otherwise.

One thing I definitely won't question is that Novak is a worthy #1 for the ATP in the sense that he handles all the "other stuff" outside of tennis extremely well. He's multi lingual, charming, handles the press very well....qualities that made Roger a great ambassador for the game. Nadal and Murray are guys that just want to play tennis and the rest of the "noise" is something they haven't embraced and it shows.
That's probably the key reason many fans don't gravitate to them as much as the others. We want tennis heroes that play inspired tennis, are grateful to what the game has provided them, walk old ladies across the street, etc, etc. and are larger than life. Murray just wants to play and win, and stuff the rest.

He is a world class player, he got there by being a damn good player, not because of his popularity...the boy can flat out play. As for his game and 'liking him'? I can watch him play but id rather watch Rajeev Ram

The poor lad has got anti-charm. I don't mind watching him play but his childish sulks, phantom injuries and explosive self-loathing make him hard to love no doubt. I wish he was a bit more aggressive but his freaky gets and movement make me laugh at times but then he follows up with utter plonker behaviour. Some mother's do ave em.
