Mike Sell is the man! He always seems to be the right voice and influence on pros he travels with. The guy is a winner! Traveled with Serena and she was winning, and now travels and coaches Young and Young is winning!

    Coincidence?! I think not!

My son played high school tennis last year. The coach decided his regular workout were more productive for him and excused him from all practices. He ended up going once a week so he could feel like part of the team.

He missed a few weeks of school during the year for tournaments.

Agree with you Treeman. Many schools are all or nothing, and the really excellent players end up walking away as they can't miss so much time away from their coach and tournaments.

But, just to be evenhanded, the rational behind this is so many kids want to play high school tennis...
The coaches feel why let player A show up just for the good matches,
when player B (not such a good player) is willing to devote all of his time and energy to high school practices and matches.

I think many times the HS coach won't be strong enough to handle the situation. You will be fielding calls from parents (of the kids in lineup that feel wronged)/admins (that those families fuss to)...you'll have to be able to say, "look we are trying to do what's best for each kid individually's situation...life is different for each person". That can be tough in this world of tough rules that don't fit each situation. Lots of coaches put in a million rules because they don't want to make tough decisions that people may not like.

Not a bad week for Donald Young in taking down Monfils.
