Three Oaks Shootout - Ft Myers, FL

Players from Florida, Illinois, NC State, and Georgia Tech will compete in this round-robin tournament that runs from Friday through Sunday.

Florida's Stephane Piro makes his collegiate debut - it will be interesting to see what the former #4 ITF Junior brings to the table for the Gators this year.

He didn't play in the dual match against Hawaii either. Must be recovering from an injury would be my guess.

if you like golf ,this is where Tiger host his yearly tournament and Pete S. has/had a custom home he built here... this place is supreme.100+ years old oak trees everywhere... they have clay and (I think)grass courts here...
maybe I can get away for tomorrow's matches ... work is too busy to be there today...

Ya, it's has the look of something you see in the south, very grand. I hope they are good at putting up results, UCLA is usually good with tweet updates, but probably just their players, so will check around others as well for the big picture.

Still haven't seen a draw but here is who Georgia's guy are playing via twitter @UGATennis with the # being the position where they should play in the regular season:

    1) KU Singh vs. (5) Stefan Lindmark (Ole Miss)
    2) Nathan Pasha vs. (4)Johan Backstrom (Ole Miss)
    3) Hernus Pieters vs. (4) Riki McLachlan (Cal)
    4) Ben Wagland vs. (1) Ben McLachlan (Cal)
    5) Garrett Brasseaux vs. (10) Nick Hoyle (USC)
    6) Marco Nunez vs. (9) Zach Wilder (Ole Miss)
8 ) Casey Kay vs. (6) Adrian Forberg Skogeng (Ole Miss)
    9) Eric Diaz vs. (9) Corey Smith (USC)

Singh, Pasha, Nunez, Diaz, and Brasseaux should win these without much problem. Wagland will have his hands full with Cal's #1, Pieters match is pretty even, and Kay is a underdog to Skogeng.

Score Updates: Pasha def. Backstrom 6-1 6-1, Singh over Lindmark 6-2 6-1, Wagland upsets Ben McL 6-3 6-4, Nunez over Wilder 6-0 6-4, Skogeng over Kay 4-6 6-1 6-0, Brasseaux over Hoyle 6-1 6-2, Pieters over Riki McL 7-5 4-6 6-3, Diaz over Smith 6-1 6-2

With a win like that for Puget, I have to think UCLA is going to have a very strong top 4 at least...Thompson, Giron, Novikov, Puget. I could see Coach Martin dropping Clay to 3 or 4 even.

Where was Thompson from UCLA this week? Gotta give UCLA props for their tweets - somebody must be assigned to do that and does a great job, otherwise there would be no updates at all till teams updated their news page.

What I think Martin's lineup should be this year:

    1. Marcos Giron
    2. Dennis Novikov
    3. Adrien Puget
    4. Clay Thompson
    5. Dennis Mkrtchian
    6. Alex Brigham/Karue Sell

It can be argued otherwise, but I believe that Puget can even be played at the two spot depending on whether or not he can take out USC's Sarmiento in tomorrow's final. I think Giron has definitely shown that he's deserving of the top spot considering his strong Fall results. Anyway that makes for a pretty strong 1-5. UCLA's only weak spot comes at the #6, but hopefully either the redshirt senior or redshirt freshman can step up and provide solid play.

I believe Karue Sell had a quality win at the Sherwood this weekend. Should be a competitive #6.

I don't think Max has played much at all since 2011. Once Mkrtchian got there, I think that was pretty much it for him.

There was some dipstick poster last year who said Max was top 4...whoops.

Interesting note...On the UGA write-up, it said KU Singh and Nathan Pasha lost to Chris Konigsfeldt and Georgia transfer Campbell Johnson 8-7(5).

Puget and Sarmiento are at 4-4 in the 3rd set. Sarmiento was up a break 4-2, but Puget came right back.

Campbell Johnson definitely would have started this year for us since we really don't have a clear cut favorite to play at 5 or 6 - just a bunch of guys that had an average fall season. Those guys may come around but Johnson at this moment is better than any of them. He beat Nunez 3 and 1 and Pieters 4 and 4 out there in Palm Springs.

Did Campbell transfer to be closer to home or because he thought he was going to be buried on the depth chart?

    5-5 in Sherwood singles final.

Puget saved a break point to go up 5-4 and Sarmiento saved a match point to make it 5-5.

Probably a little of both. The guys they brought in this year were "supposed" to be higher rated than him but haven't performed as such. Nunez was a top 50 ITF Jr but he had an erratic fall, Austin Smith has been injured, and Wagland is the exception that's performed well.

Sarmiento breaks Puget to make it 6-5. Ray will now serve for the title.

Yes, and northern California is closer to home than Georgia is.
