Indeed his great success in doubles and also in singles was mainly due to his great return.Solid, quick, taking the ball on the rise, what he lacked in a big serve or thundering groundies he made it with his ROs, but also great footwork, nimble and quick and also very agressive at the net.

He anihilated Becker at the WCT finals in 86 just as he had roundly beaten Mc Enroe in the 1983 Canadian Open or Wilander at other venues ( and also Dallas).

During the 80´s, it was common to say that both Mac and Jarryd were the single best doubles players and the proof is that Jarryd won a bunch of titles, some majors, with guys so different as Fitzgerald,Edberg,Wilander,Smid.

He was quiet and shy but very agressive on court, and played well on almost any surface. You better not underestimate him.

Gilbert and Jarryd reached the WCT finals championship match, but Jarryd won it while Gilbert lost it.Both also played the semis at the Masters
