Jamie Loeb from Carolina wins ITA in Riviera

Who is this girl from Carolina ? She just destroyed Robin Anderson from UCLA to win the ITA title. 1st of the 4 college slams. 6-4 6-0 win. Robin Anderson is supposed to be one of the top 3 in NCAA this year, if not #1. and yet Loeb wins easily. Why didn't Jamie Loeb turn pro if she is so good ?
I believe she went to JP McEnroe tennis academy in NY.

I know she verbaled to UNC pretty early. Continued to play ITF and the majors (qualifiers for the womens, main draw for juniors). Family is into tennis and understands the process.
After she won the title today she thanked the UNC coach (assistant coach) for her help getting thru 11 matches in 9 days.
I listened to the match on radio tennis. The announcer kept waiting for Jamie to falter. Robin Anderson is a very good player with a complete game. Plus she hadn't had to go thru pre qualifiers and qualifiers. Jamie struggled with her 1st serve in the 1st set but once she closed that out didn't falter and finished strong.
I didn't see the match but I would think it's safe to say she earned this title the hard way.

More Feddie bait. I'll play. She was only the #1 recruit in the class of 2013. They don't all go to the west coast Feddie. Get over yourself.

Sabrina Santamaria of USC will win the NCAA singles and doubles and maybe the USC women's team will also win the NCAA's ... bold prediction but you heard it here first...

Stanford also had a very strong recruiting season and looks very strong as a team. they still have Kristie Ahn. but I will admit that USC has more experience on their squad and maybe just as much talent on the team. and USC is very hungry, hungrier than ever to win the NCAA title.

yes, I heard about her. We will see if she makes a difference. USC has tendency to choke when it comes time for NCAA tournament. They may get by the Cardinal then what ? Then they just lose to another team. It will only be a worth while year if they win the NCAA tournament in May. and that is a big time pressure. Not sure if they can do it ?

Jamie Loeb Wins Singles Title At ITA All-Americans
    Release: 10/06/2013

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - North Carolina freshman Jamie Loeb won her 11th straight singles match at the 2013 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships to become the first freshman since 2004 to win the singles title.
The newcomer knocked off top-seeded Robin Anderson of UCLA, 6-4, 6-0, to complete her nine-day trek to the championship. It marked the first Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships in school history.

Loeb immediately broke Anderson's serve to start the match and later added another break en route to a 5-2 lead and served for the first set, but Anderson showed the grit she has all tournament, breaking Loeb's serve and consolidating the break for 4-5.

Loeb rattled off the next seven games to capture the match and the 2013 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championship. Loeb became the first freshman to win at Riviera since Audra Cohen of Northwestern did so in 2004.

In main draw play, Loeb didn't surrender a set and lost just eight total games in the second set of five total matches.

Loeb defeated the top-three seeds in the tournament during her run through the Main Draw over the weekend.

Miraculous might not be a strong enough word to describe what the rookie from Ossining, N.Y., accomplished out west.

Being a freshman, she had to play her way through the Prequalifying draw and win three matches to advance to the Qualifying draw, where she had to again win three more times to make the Main Draw.

Loeb won all five matches in straight sets in the Main Draw. In fact, she lost only one set in her 11 matches, and that came in the Qualifying draw.

Loeb feasted on the Pac-12, winning four of her five Main Draw matches against the conference. That included two players from UCLA, and one each from California and Stanford.

The other victim was second-seed Lauren Herring from Georgia in Saturday's semifinal bout.

Loeb earns an automatic bids to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, which will be held from Nov. 7-10 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.

PS - She's in the doubles semi-final tomorrow with fellow Frosh Hayley Carter at the ITA Carolinas. Carter will also be playing in the singles final following their doubles match.

Does this mean, now Jamie is the predominant favorite to take the NCAA D1 individual title next year ?
