While most of his contemporaries were using gut string jobs Courier used Gosen synthetic gut strung very tight during most of his ATP playing days.

No, On the tennis channel I heard He used cheap nylon strings... no joke, like the ones that would come on prestrung rackets you can buy at sports stores.

from what i remember he grew up playing w/those strings and never switched.

  5. Yeah, it's not like anybody else grew up playing with cheap nylon, and Gosen named a string Jim Courier just because they felt like it.

In those days, "nylon" = anything other than gut. In fact, the string in question has nylon in it.

I remember back in the day when I used Gosen OG Sheep Micro JC 16. Great string, very sensitive, nice pop to it but just didn't last me long enough and the tension dropped too fast.

When he first turned pro, he used cheap Wilson Synthetic, because he was used to it. I don't know when or if he ever switched.
