Thought Tsonga looked good at AO

Bad result last week but fancy him this week to win. Came through a very tight match with Tomic and think he will win this in 3 sets.

Even going to predict the sets - 6-4, 3-6, 7-5

Heart says Tsonga. Had an early out last week and he's fresh and playing well. Hitting the ball very well too.

    Say Tsonga in 3.

Tsonga's gotta beat one of the top guys again some day, thinking this could be the sort of place for him to do it. Certainly hope so!

Breakthrough year my arse, his breakthrough year was 2008.

Really hope Berdych wins, nothing gives me more pleasure then seeing a french crowd squirm.

It "should" be Berd but this is in France. Tsonga will have the home advantage.

that might play to berdych's advantage... he seems to thrive on being despised (refer: in Madrid Vs. Nadal crica 2006 if i remember correctly).

I think Tsonga is more focused and committed this year. If he is, I rate him at #6 right behind the Big 4 and Delpo.

    And, he's on home turf.

    I think he takes it. 7-6, 5-7, 6-3

your forgetting the giant that is daveeeeeed ferrer! He owns Delpo, Berdych and Tsonga*.

Anyway, match** about to start! Will be fun.

    * Only leads Tsonga 2-1 head-to-head, but is emphatic against the other two higher ranked players.

Berdych leads 5-3. Tsonga hasn't found his rhythm yet. Now serves for the first set.

Sorry...this is right. Ferrer's rightfully number 5 in that list, and he's rightly number 4 in the world right now.

Tsonga's in the right place right now, but he still has work to do.

Tsonga is so talented, but seems to have trouble staying in rallies with Berdych. Perhaps he's used to being teh big hitter on court.

    BP for Berdman.

What a challenge, LOL! Replayed the point, Jo got the 1st serve and saved the BP with serve and FH combo.

Great point, maybe that's what Tsonga needed to get going?

He's too erratic on the return though.

Great rally. This could be the inspiration Jo needs to get into this match.

I don't understand why Berdych doesn't have more fans I love his game. Almost everyone on here wants Tsonga. 4-3* Tsonga.

Berdych has a great, fluid game, but he lacks the personality/flamboyance that Jo possesses. That's what I like in a player and why I root for him anyway.

Berdych is playing like he's from the late 90s... flat hard hitting groundstrokes, big serves, many service games ending 40-0... i guess Tsonga isn't used to this.

True, Berdman's game is awesome to watch, effortless power.

Jo has flamboyant personality and is more of an all-courter.

Tsonga s&v'ed on 3 points in a row when being down 15-30 at 4-4. THAT is what makes him what he is.

Jo is just awesome at the net.

That was actually one of the rare times Jo displayed good tactics on court, Berdman is slaughtering him from the baseline.

I wouldn't say that was tactical prowess. Tsonga isn't a tactical player. He's a risk-taker, who feels the moment and that is what that was imo.

What a brilliant display of fast court tennis from both. A pity there are only 5-10% of these courts in the ATP so we get complete snoozefests instead of this fantastic tennis.

As others have said, Tsonga is flamboyant and fun to watch personality-wise, but I also like his game more. Berdych is very one dimensional and doesn't have much more than big, flat groundstrokes. Tsonga, on the other hand, moves better (and so can defend better), hits big groundies, and also comes up to net a lot more. I also like his service motion more, which seems to play a role in the players I prefer.
