Sweden's Joachim Johansson will be out of action for up to eight months after undergoing a shoulder operation.

He is currently 14th in the rankings after missing the French Open with an elbow injury before reaching the third round at Wimbledon.

"During the rehabilitation I'll work on building up my body," Johansson told Swedish newspaper Goteborgs-Posten.

Thanks for the update. That should be a relief to the field hoping to play the USO. It really is a pity because Pim-Pim had a nice run to the semis last year, but he hasn't been doing very well this season since the beginning of the year.

interesting...

If Agassi breaks down again, Safin isn't 100% and now with Joachim out, Nadal just caught himself a break...

On US open court, the top players are not Nadal's concern. He has to be concerned with almost every match if he doesn't draw another clay court specialist, similar to at Wimbledon.

Plays with a flexy player's stick and his whole arm is shot - everybody'd be blaming the racquet if he played Babalot.

Wow, eight months is as long as I recall hearing a player's rehab to take. Sad to hear. Any chance he'll have the serve he did?
