The tournament is by no means missing John. If John had entered, he would have eventually run into Delpo where he would have been destroyed in straight set, and we would have been robber of watching Tim Smyczek. When are you going to get this through your head: aces mean next to nothing when the rest of your game is below average. If he's this good, why does he only have 5 titles? Why is his career record 165-109? Why hasn't he won a slam yet? Isner deserves to be a pro, but you're VASTLY overrating him.

The courts are playing very quick this year did you see how well Del Po serving today? 4 aces to close out the match!! Sure he's a great player and a contender but he would have had a mighty tough time getting John's serve back in play on that surface.

Serve and huge forehand combo on a quicker court and it's job done! Querrey said these are the quickest courts he has played on in a Grand Slam!

goran ivanisivic, a big server, didn't dominate the 90s and he had a much better ground and volley game than isner.

pros get used to fast serves and can adjust. isner is very poor apart from his serve. you need to break the other guy's serve to win matches.

also, goran was healthy in his 20s. isner is already falling apart unfortunately. would have been nice to see him play AO for variety's sake.

lololololol Delpo would beat Isner 9 times out of 10. He's a slam winner. Isner has one masters final.

Federer and Djokovic are both multiple Grand Slam champions but that did not stop John doing the business against them last year! Del Po would have given John a good test no doubt he's a class player but it would be tough for anyone to withstand the barrage of 140 mph serves on these courts which are playing with more pace than previous years!

He has wins over both of them, but he can't keep it together for an entire tournament. How is this difficult for you to understand? Delpo beat fed and Nadal in back to back matches. When has John done that?

Thats only happened twice ever to be fair!! Other time was Djokovic at the US Open 2011!

Isner took Nadal to 5 sets at the French open! How many times have Djokovic or Federer managed that?

Getting lucky and treeing for two sets against Nadal is just that, luck. You talk about Isner like he's the best player ever and he hasn't even won a masters or made a slam semifinal.
Oh, and I think you need to use some more exclamation marks.

Its funny how not many other player have managed to get that "lucky" v Nadal at the French isn't it? Let's not forget John also took Novak to 5 at the Davis Cup as well!

You keep bringing up the fact he doesn't have a slam or masters title as yet, well let's judge him at that end of his career in that respect!

As far as his game goes! He has a huge game that on it's day can blow anyone off court which he has proven many times now!

Isn't Roddick enough proof that a big serve+forehand is just not enough any more? The only Slam he ever won was because he was so much more aggressive off the ground (not to mention Federer was just entering his prime). And Roddick is actually better off the ground even at his most passive, explaining how he made all those Slam finals. Isner lost his momentum with his horrid European swing last year, when I was expecting great things from him. He became a servebot in service games + pusher in return games. Not bad results overall, won titles, but never where it really mattered.

Any decent baseliner with a good serve seems capable of beating him.

Soderling beat Nadal at the FO, but I guess big John Isner would beat him, wouldn't he?

Absolutely! But unfortunately for John, the quicker the courts the less likely he will be able to break a serve...

Why have you suddenly turned into as much of an Isner-bot as Isner is a serve-bot? You bring him up in every post you write, and start a thread on him as if he is the firm favorite to win the AO.

It takes a very weird type of person who is satisfied by seeing matches made up by rallies consisting of 2 shots at the most.

I dunno, I suggest you maybe find a video of Karlovic vs Isner playing on extremely fast grass (or even better, ice), and watch that on repeat forever. At least that would stop you posting here about that dull all-serve bot.

Two of the sets Fed won today were tiebreaks! Breaking was not easy Tsonga served well

In these conditions Isner with his serve and with the bounce he extracts would have been tough for anyone to handle they would have been under consistent pressure knowing that if you get broken once then the set is pretty much done

Isner must live in constant fear of this seeing as he finds it so difficult to break his opponent's service games.

I wonder what else we can relate to Isner's serve...

    ...Cookies?

Ah, yes - cookies. Cookies are made from flour. Flour is a made from wheat. Wheat is a plant. Plants are related to trees. When Isner serves really well, some commentators have called it 'treeing' - as if Isner was serving from a tree. When he's like that he's an unstoppable force, playing big man tennis the way it is meant to be played - taking the match out of his opponent's hands. With a serve like that, Federer would have had real trouble against him.

I really appreciate Isner's hard work. Agreed he is gifted by height, but he worked a lot harder on his movement. His movement is always going up and improving. His stokes as well. He has this hunger to make big. But will be become big without born talent? That will be the big question.

When John is confident it transfers to all parts of his game! Davis Cup last year v Federer that 4th set he was crushing the return as he ran away with the set 6-2.

Just a few days till Davis Cup starts and the tennis world will get to see the huge serving and massive hitting John Isner terrorising opponents and bullying them around the court with his huge game once more!

Great news for the USA that he has back in the team to face Brazil last year he carried the USA to the Semis with amazing wins over the likes of Federer and Tsonga.

    Go Big John and USA!

Only a few weeks until we can see him smashing down 149 mph aces at Indian Wells.

Lol... and to think you called ME out for being an unpaid member of Murray's team! :)

Seriously, it's good news for the USA that Isner is back. He's clearly their #1 player now and I'm sure he will do some serious damage to his opponents. They need him!

Excellent performance from John on his comeback! Was serving tremendously well with 32 aces!

    "
If the 3,400 fans on hand thought that Querrey dominated with his serve, they were in for an even more dominant performance by Isner. The 6-foot-9 right-hander had 32 aces and 29 other serves that Alves was helpless to get back across the net.

“I always rely on my serve,” Isner said. “I wouldn’t have such a pretty good ranking if it wasn’t for my serve. I wasn’t as sharp in other facets of my game. It was certainly choppy out there at times. I littered up the stat sheet, for sure.”

Isner gets all the credit yet Querrey wins in straight sets against an opponent ranked 100 spots higher than the one Isner player?

Decent performance fro Querrey too! The fact of the matter is that Isner being the number 1 man in US tennis is the go to man for the team obviously he's been out of action for a while with injury which makes this win all the more important!

American tennis and world tennis as a whole has been poorer without Isner on court blasting his aces as he was last night!

Querrey has been playing and in decent form! and if he was not under the same pressure as John as he was playing as the number 2 player!

John is the go to man of the team and he aims to make this team his own! That pressure with then team on his shoulders added to the fact this match was his comeback match make this a fantastic performance and it seems like his serve was at it's belligerent best with 32 aces!

You're neglecting the fact that Querrey played the better player and destroyed him, while Isner lost a set to a guy ranked in the 100's. By the end of this year, Querrey will be the number 1 American. He's a better player than John.

Isner loses in 5 to a man that Querrey took apart easily. Ark, what's your input?
