I don't think it was awful for Federer fans. Safin was on fire that day and it took him five sets. He played well and hit winners when it was required. that backhand down the line on match point is still amazing when I see it today.

Awful for Federer fans? He played extremely well! It was a tight match; both players were playing well and don't forget...

    Total Points Won
    Federer: 201/395
    Safin: 194/395

:p They both played extremely well and it was a great match to watch.

Federer looked really different there to me, more pale, thinner and looked as if he was ill or something.

Disappointing - yes, but not awful.
Safin, Baghdatis and Gasquet are the 3 players I wouldn't mind that much, if Federer loses to them.

over and over and over again...Marat v. Federer. AO 05, the same old points. Marat, I'm tired of this...do something positive again...soon...like win a Slam..or a match...or a set.... anything.....don't open with 0-15 again. .

feel the same for blake and Kuerten. When Fed lost to kuerten 2004, I thought Kuerten showed him a lesson .

Federer has said that had he won that match, he does not know if he would have been capable of playing the final because of the pain in his feet. His feet had been a recurring problem for him and he has said he was in pain throughout the match.

**** happens, I believe. It's tough for Roger, but it's also tough for Safin losing to players ranked 512 week in and week out.
