So I just bought an Eagnas Challenger I (copied version of Alpha DC Plus). Tried my very first string job yesterday. Everything went fine except my right hand is sore from constantly having to pull the string out of the string gripper. Is this normal? So basically after I balance the dropweight to get my desired tension, I clamp the string so that I can move on to the next hole. However, the problem is it is hard to get the string out of the gripper. I had to use a piece of towel for my hand to pull the string off (which must not be good for the string) because the released tension can hurt after repeated blow to the fingers/hand. Is this normal?

After clamping string, bring the arm back up to release tension.
    String should release.

There is a ratchet you need to release on the gripper mechanism. Once that is released you can raise the bar and the string should release. If you don't release that ratchet piece underneath the drum then you will have lots of trouble. Otherwise it should be very easy.

To release the string use the left hand to push down the drum latch.

Then with the right hand lift the dropweight up to the highest position and remove the string.

Also, if the latch doesn't move, push down on the weight very gently and the latch will release.
