Just Watch 1996 ATP final between Sampras and Becker. That was really amazing. I think Federer have no way to win the 96 sampras and the 96 Becker

That match was one for the ages. Pete often cites it as one of his favorite matches of all time. Pete and Boris had great respect for each other and they were two of the greatest champions the sport has ever seen.

If I could make a dream tour, it would include the following players together, all playing in their primes: Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, Boris Becker, Stefan Edberg, Patrick Rafter, Ivan Lendl, John McEnroe, Roger Federer, Jim Courier, Gustavo Kuerten, Lew Hoad, Don Budge, Rod Laver, Pancho Gonzalez, Arthur Ashe, Stan Smith, John Newcomb, Goran Ivanisavic, and Jimmy Connors.

Now that would be something. I still think that Pete would be the leader of the pack, but it would be some unbelievable tennis.

I wouldn't mind throwing in Ken Rosewall and Roscoe Tanner for good measure. I know, Roscoe doesn't measure up, but I'd like to see how fast his serve would be with today's technology. Anyone know if he was ever clocked? ('m not sure when that capability was introduced or how accurate it might have been back then).

:p The 1st rd of the 96 Masters was even better = 7-6 7-6 Becker on top, huge groundies/serves, alot of winners, few errors. The crowd was something else. I have both matches on tape, awesome for review before you play.

Tennis is one sport where you cant really compare alltime greats for earlier eras since the technology was soo different, ie wood vs graphite. Its even hard to compare the early graphite players like Lendl & Mac vs the newage hitech graphite players but if possible to time travel players at thier primes, atleast this graphite competition would be very interesting indeed.

    Hey borisboris,
I'm really interested in that round robin match. Is there any player or match you're looking for? Email me if you're interested in trading.
If not I'm willing to pay. thanks!

That 1996 ATP final in Hanover, Germany with Becker and Sampras (Sampras wins 6-4 in the 5th) is definetely won of the best tennis matches I have seen. I have lots of these matches on DVD and would consider trades but Im spoiled now and only want very good quality matches and prefer DVD since transfering the VHS to DVD is a timeconsuming process, especially if you edit out the commerical like I prefer.

It's funny, but i think i'm the only person in the world who thinks this match is overrated. Abou the best rally of the match came on match point, they both served amazingly well and not much came back. From memory Becker was only broken once in 5 sets and that was in the 5th. The thing that stood out to me was Beckers amazing serving and the lack of rallies.

 I just watched it again. How could you not realize the magnitude of the match??? The crowd was amazing -Sampras called it one of his top matches ever-He said the 1st set was the best anyone has ever played against him, the World Championship is on the line and there was only 2 breaks of serve in 5 sets!!! Prior to this Becker beat him 7-6 7-6 and beat him in another 5 set final in Stuttgart the yr earlier. This was pure ball control.

Big match for sure Boris but i just feel that the serving was that brilliant that it deprived us of seeing more balls hit. I'll watch it again but the one thing i remember was the spectacularly effective serving.

I thought the match was riveting. There are very few matches that make you hang on the edge of your seat with the shotmaking going on. This was a classic. Some of the Rafter matches at Wimbledon are the same way.

Yeah i have to go back on what i said somewhat. Have watched the first set and a half again, and althought there were many free points on serve the rallies that did come forth were absolutely top notch. Very aggressive tennis, with not many errors at all considering. Apologies.
