Kinesio Taping Method

Okay, so I finally figured out what the heck is up with all these weird looking tape jobs we've seen in recent years. Recall Henin's calf, Ginepri's arm, many others.

It's called the Kinesio Taping Method.

I have to say I'm curious. Anyone familiar with all of this? I wonder if I could teach myself how to put in on?

Yes, I have had it done many times, and have even done it myself. I own several books on the taping method and it is fairly easy to do.

One problem: My chiropractor thinks this is the greatest invention since.... I don't think it works.

But the kinesio tape itself is very nice. If you live in a very humid area and you find that your normal athletic tape keeps coming off your blistered finger, wipe it clean and put on some Kinesio tape. It stays on for days.

My ortho taught me how to apply the tape to my knee. It's a simple process. The tape jobs were much better than any braces. Really supported the knee. I did it for awhile, but it's a pain in the arse doing it before each tennis session, the tape is expensive (while a brace is cheap and re-usable) and it kept ripping the hair off my leg when it was time to remove the tape (and I wasn't willing to shave my leg). So, once the knee improved, I switched to a brace. But my point is that taping, if done correctly, does work.

Can someone share how to apply this Kinesio tape for someone who has tennis elbow (lateral or medial epicondylitis)? If possible, add pictures. It will be much appreciated.

hmm $14.95 for 16' of tape? With tax and shipping that's more than a dollar a foot! I think I will pass. You can buy an elbow brace for just slightly more that will last for years.

That is your preference. I was asking because I am interested.

I tried out this tape (the ultra stricky blue version) a few months back while nursing a calf strain. I ran it from the bottom of my foot near the facia up the back of the calf to give me added support. I played tennis with it 5 hrs a day while at a tennis resort in the blistering heat. It did a good job, but does peel some from your sweat and the humidity (beautiful May Florida humidity...you know what type of wetness I'm talking about). I must say, it did help me get through the week of tennis.

The tape is good but you need to know how to apply it properly for it to work. My physio at the time showed me. At that price, make sure you use it properly. Its a shame to waste it!

Good luck!!

If you have access to university interlibrary loans, request books (there are about 4-5 good books on this subject).

If you don't have such access, email me. I can scan the pages and email them to you.

But don't expect a miracle. It didn't work for me.
