Nice proactive play from Federer, going on the attack at deuce. Lacko is not showing enough grit.

Compared to London, these courts appear noticeably slower.

Obviously Fed's hot form will fluctuate somewhat throughout the tournament ... BUT, if he plays LIKE THIS during the final rounds.. say hello 17th Slam and 5th AO.

Fed turning 30? No problem. :)

Ridiculous. Lacko is getting 70% of his first serves over yet he is only winning 55% of the points. Federer is serving at 56% at winning 80% of those points.

I have to say, for a guy like Wilander who is so anti-Fed... even HE can't stop himself from "wowing" on every other Federer shot.

Man Roger has got some serious game right now.

First two sets were very good. Third he was a bit tentative again, bit passive for a while. In the end though, no worries at all.

pretty impressive stuff from fed , especially the first two sets.

Now bring on simon. I want a breadstick/bagel at the very least and a straight-set thrashing

Brilliant match by Fed. He already brings out the goods. I thought the 3rd set was also very good on serve but at the BPs Fed played somewhat tentative.

The only painful thing about this match was the Wilander commentary. I still can't understand if he's a ******* or a *******. At some point he says "I always thought Nadal has better hands than Federer" and then he says "Federer is just fun to watch where Nadal just wears you down side to side".

I just hope Federer doesn't come out flat to this match like he often does against Andreev. Simon is a tough opponent for Federer, the kind Fed hates playing against.

To be honest, I think he's trying to be objective and look at both the positives and negatives in those two.

I'm certainly as confused as you are, especially since he was "wowing" and "ooing" at Fed's shots several hours ago and yet tends to make some disparaging remarks in his direction.

    - declaring the first set the best set he had seen anyone ever play
    - claiming that roger would have retired by now if it wasn't for the fact that he knows that he has to be the one to stop rafa getting to 16

    there were other gems too..ridiculous

It sounds like he's feeling guilty enjoying Federer so much. Its tough for him to say how amazing Federer is and then say stuff like "but we can't call him the best ever" or "Nadal is better". I mean, anyone who's listened to him commentate, its clear he prefers to watch Federer over Nadal, or anyone else for that matter. Wilander is a complex fellow.

I know.Plus the courts look sloooooooooooooooooow
Someone posted here that A-Rod apparently said that the courts are playing slower than he's ever seen
Simon will most probably love nothing more than to drive Roger into making errors.

Its funny, he says Fed would have retired and later he said how it looks like Fed is enjoying it more than he has in the past. More gems:

    - claiming Rafa has better hands than Roger.
    - Then claiming watching Roger is much more fun that watching Rafa.

If Fed comes with the right approach and mindset he should be able to win easily. But its Simon, he can drive Federer mad.

Lacko drew Nadal in the second round last year.

He's developing a knack for running into Fedal.

Not a good habit unless he can pull off wins against them.

Who knows, maybe the FO is going to pack a few surprises? ;)

I'm sure he had good experience but it's a pity he couldn't get a fine draw so he can advance round or two first.

I really believe Federer is not beatable on HC at the moment.

I think he'll take this without dropping a set.

utterly sublime performance from fed, hard to see him get any better than that, hopefully he can produce a similar performance against simon, will be a tricky match, he'll have to really evaluate the best tactics to use against simon, but i expect him to get revenge for his 2 previous losses, through in straight sets, with there being a possibility of a couple of tight sets, but if he plays anything like he did today it should be another whitewash.

Tactically, Federer is a very different player since last year. No player has changed their game as much. On serve, Federer is essentially a serve and volleyer trying to open up the court to hit a short ball to the open court. Last year, he was trying to ace players or get short balls for a put away. On return, he is attacking the second serve on his backhand side rather than chipping it back deep.

Simon plays like Murray but with less defensively. It will be a good test since pretty much everyone plays like this now. Strategic attacking tennis is the way to attack counterpunchers.

Yet another thread corrupted by the Federer-Nadal rivalry.

Frankly, I just want to enjoy the tennis for a change.

    Enough is enough.
