I've decided that I want to get a Lacoste hat off of that auction site (which i don't understand why you can't say....?) so I was wondering how you could tell which of these hats is genuine and which isn't.
Some have the alligator right on the side (more expensive) and others have the crocodile between the front and the side (18 bucks or so). I wanted to know how you can distinguish what is the genuine one.

Most likely they're all knockoffs unless you shop at an authorized retailer.

    Lacoste Hat

The real hat is $39.00 in the store. The aligator is on the right side of the hat if you're wearing it. The shorts are $60.00 and the polo's are $80!!!

Pique Polos are 72 dollars actually.
The tag inside should say Designed in France made somewhere else.

I was at the Lacoste Store in Scottsdale over the w/e. The shirts were $85. They were plain white and had the croc on the chest and Lacoste stiched on the right sleeve. The shorts were $80 and they had those in black and white. The "deal" they had was the shorts in green on sale for $47.99. Needless to say I did not buy anything.

About 99% of lacoste shirts on e bay are fake! They say they are authentic but are actually fake. Real ones should only have 3 sentences on the tag NOT 4 like e bay!

Basically all of the hats on that auction site are fake w/ glued on logos. The ones they sell in stores have much larger crocodile logos than they put on their authentic polos which instantly makes it easy to spot a fake. Just look at Andy Roddick's logo's. There much larger and thats what the legit hats look like. Also, they haven't made any with mesh on the back trucker style I believe which you see alot of fakes made with. Basically I wouldn't buy one off there. MAN......tennis warehouse needs to start selling Lacoste!

The way you tell how the polos are fake is that on the real ones, the alligator logo is a few centimeters above the stitches on the bottom of the slit where the buttons are, on the fake ones it is even with these stitches. The collars are usually stiffer on the real ones, and the tags have more detail than the fake ones. As for the hat, you'll probably need to see it up close to really tell if it is fake or not, I'm sure the alligator on the real ones show more detail (you can actually see the legs and scales of the alligator) than the fake ones.
