OK laptop/computer guys, I need some opinions. My 5 yo Dell is going to the sweet bye and bye. My wife will be the primary user, mostly for pics/facebook/email/possible webcam stuff. This Asus gets good reviews and seems plenty powerful (seems like Asus gets good reviews all around) for what we do.

However, I've been flirting with Apple for some time but honestly don't want to pay the $400+ extra when I've never really had any probs with PCs. Any opinions, including alternate recs. greatly appreciated!!

Asus makes great motherboards but i dont think i would buy a whole laptop from them. Sony's are great laptops with great lcd screens. Everyone says mac laptops are great and they probably are just that you have to get used to a different OS.

If I weren't so displeased with PC laptops in general I would probably either get an Asus or Sony. But I absolutely refuse to by another PC laptop. That being said I think 500 is a pretty freakin sweet deal. Now here's another question. Does Bestbuy do the repairs themselves or do they just ship it back out to the manufacturer?

My six year old Apple Powerbook is still going strong. And its the old PPC one.

However, I've just got a new Intel Macbook.

It depends what kind of work you do, do you rely on softwares that run only on Windows ? My experience with Macs has been great == i moved over from Windows to Linux. Then to Mac. Never had a problem with Linux, but too many to name with Windows.

Don't know about the laptops or desktops but their netbooks are rated the tops! I'm ordering one on Monday.
