    Paes: player, husband, dad.

Leander with family at a wedding of two Indian movie stars. The guy standing next to Leander in the first picture also acts in some Indian movies.

Don't blame his daughter for being shy. There must be a million cameras over there.

SRK has a mouse face like Daniel Craig. It has always bothered me how these people got selected. When SRK was coming up, I used to voice this opinion, but people did not take kindly to it so I stopped. But he is a good actor.

SRK was okay as a TV serial actor in something called Fauji. How he progressed to the big screen was a shock to many then. I am sure you do have an idea how these selections are made and what forces are behind all this. You do know a lot of what's happening here.

This photo is very recent after AO' 2012. They were at marriage of Riteish and Genelia, two Bollywood stars after a 7 year old romance.

Leander's wife Rhea Pillai is the ex-wife of Sanjay Dutt another big Bollywood star. She was his teacher at "Art of Living" course.

Before that Leander has dated a lot of women including another actress "Mahima Chaudhary". She is said to be the reason for original split between Leander and Mahesh Bhupathi as both were chasing her at that time.

Mahesh Bhupathi also hitched up with another Bollywood actress Lara Dutta and got married and now became father.

My wife is a big fan of the SRK in Fauji.

Now, it is said that he did NOT have Bollywood connections and came up the hard way. There is something about his acting that appeals to people - I think his emotions come out as very realistic.

It is by S.S. Ravi Shankar. it is HUGE. Happens here regularly. Have attended a few of them casually for an hour. But never when he was there. For that, you have to track when he comes to somewhere nearby (like LA), and then the whole local population seems to vanish for the event. I have watched him many times on TV.

Don't confuse him with our man of Daily Bliss (Nithyananda)

    Ohhhh no you di'int.

He's the worst actor! Overacts on everything and always have to have the perfect angle on him, with his perfect hair. He's more concerned about how he looks in each shot than trying to portray a particular emotion and scene effectively. He is aaaalways posing. He's almost as bad as Hritik Roshan.

Now, Akshay Kumar and Sanjay Dutt...that's where it's aaat.

Sanjay Dutt is too damn old now. He should be playing Grandfather type roles with his wrinkled up, drugged up self the same way Amitabh and Mithun are doing.

Everybody in India knows Bruce Willis and Tom Cruise. Nobody other than Indians know Shah Rukh Khan. That's my point. SRK hasn't made anybody other than India take notice of him. Not one movie which has transcended the Bollywood industry.

Don 2 is a joke! Seen that same type movie before in Hollywood. Funny how when Indians try to make an MI rip-off, it's supposed to be ground-breaking. Even Doom was hilarious.
Bollywood should stick to the formula which works. Boy chasing girl, girl wanting to marry boy and lots of song and dance.:)
Best indian movie is Sholay...even after all these years. They don't make actors like them anymore.

No way. Bollywood copies a lot of Hollywood movies (including parts from different movies) but the end result is better than the original. Hollywood movies have become dark and gloomy - used to be called the film noir genre, now every movie is like that. Dark and gloomy or doomsday scenario or too much realistic violence or filthy language or stupid animations with animals talking like humans - everything has been taken too far. The "lesser" Bollywood versions are more humanized and cheerful.

Yes, many people who get really deep into the A.o.L courses end up being brainwashed into worshipping Ravi Shankar (or Sri Sri as they like to call him). I've known people who have him on their desktop wallpapers, screen-savers, and so on :). It is a cult-like following.

He is a very good psychologist. That is what makes him special. He can understand what troubles people, and speak to that. He has adapted religion into simple ideas which people feel comforting, so they flock to him.

Shahrukh is a great actor but his movies are made only to appeal us(indians)..I think when it comes to appealing to mass/world audience then Aamir Khan has done better then him..I remeber his movies such as "LAGAAN" and "PEEPLI LIVE" being selected for OSCAR..

You are an American, right? It's amazing you know so much about indian movies..
I remember watching MATRIX in 97-98 when i was only 7 yrs old and i was amazed by the action and it's special effects...I was spellbounded, couldn't believe what was happening..lol..I am a big rocky fan..I have seen it's every part nearly 3 times(6*3=18 )..

I agree with what mike has to say about the movies such as DON2 and DHOOM..Their action scenes weren't that spectacular as in comparison to Hollywood counterparts.I think big differences arises due to financing, whereas a typical bollywood costs between 15 to 35 millions and a hollywood producer could eaily invest anywhere between 100 to 500 million(sAvatar was made for 500 million,right?)..So when the investment is less, your special effects ain't the same and eveything technical goes down..I hope you understand what I am saying..

Wow! I'd no idea there are so many Indian ppl on this forum. I'm an American, but live in Mumbai since last year, so I'm starting to figure Bollywood out. But I don't think I could ever watch an SRK movie. I'm totally fatigued out with all those commercials he does - any where you look, it's SRK. He advertises for sodas, sofas, phones, jewelry...every damn thing!

I happen to be familiar with all these "shows". I used to follow the news on these guys closely. These are all "spiritual businesses", no matter how nice they may sound, and how nice they may make you feel, for a short while. People with good oratory skills who read the Vedas and a few more books and then start wooing the masses.

Ultimately they are all into money, and getting more and more people, what you call MLM schemes. This very much includes AoL. Possibly they also become pawns in the hands of politicians, or partners, but that's an angle i kept out of and did not even want to fathom. They are all very well connected, and no one can touch them.

Is MLM like a pyramid scheme? Never heard of it.

I have gone to the free AoL gatherings or whatever when they are close by and convenient - just a bunch of people singing, with a large SS's photo. If they ask for money, of course I will think twice.

Not really. Only the affluent people in India ( sometimes not even them) know those two. And such people are in a minority. Also, a large part of this knowledge comes due to the knowledge of English language which is widely spoken in the country.

But SRK's movies are not made in English, nor are they targeted deliberately for an international audience.

Don 2 was targeted, and succeeded.

BTW, the narrower definitions of audience has to be changed. Some Bollywood movies, even those that flopped at the BO, make good DVD money in US, UK, Mid East, Malaysia, Singapore, etc. If Don 2 was widely watched in the US, even by a niche audience, it does indicate global reach.

I think MLM (multi-level marketing) refers to stuff like what Amway does. Each member has to get more members and based on that they rise. So you are pressed into getting more people, which means you have to lie or exaggerate about benefits in order to get more.

No doubt, the money and MLM aspect is not noticeable to outsiders and first-timers. But once you join and start getting involved, then the demands start rising. Large donations are expected, you are expected to bring in more people etc. The extreme in this case was perhaps an American called Adi Da Samraj (many names but this was the last one, i think). One of the biggest in India went by the name Kalki (Vijay Kumar) but changed names to save himself. Another was the recent Nithyananda.

SRK has actually tried to reinvent himself. He now exercises and goes shirtless more than he did in his younger days as he sees the new generation of bollywood stars are all exercising, modelling off Salman, Roshan, Amir Khan, etc.
But again, having a good physique doesn't mean you will be a star. If you're not a good actor and have no charisma than no amount of exercise will help you.
Just like being pretty doesn't guarantee success for a woman in Bollywood.

SRK is a good actor and has good screen presence. Most of these young guys coming in don't have his qualities.

They speak much much more english now in Bollywood movies than they ever did before. Because they're basically targeting an international audience. I would not be surprised if in 20 years, Bollywood goes completely Hollywood and every Indian actor MUST be able to speak fluent english.:)
Why target a niche market of Indians when you can target a mass market of all nationalities by speaking in a language which they can understand without a need for subtitles?
And also, Indians also believe that fair skin and speaking english means you must be of a high class. That's why skin bleaching is so popular. Dark skin is reflective of your caste.
Darker skin means lower caste in the eyes of Indians. Why else are SRK, Salman, Roshan, Amir, etc looking more and more like Hollywood actors than Bollywood actors? They all look more similar to Stallone than they do to Dharmendra. They all are white skinned, muscular, and speak english a lot.

Because it is not just the language. The situations will also not make sense to many people. Even French and Italian cinema cannot make it to the US mass market even though there is so much more cultural closeness. How many people will watch Fellini?

Wow You surely have quite a huge data base when it come to Bollywood films..Allthough i am not a big movie buff but still enjoy watching it frm time to time..
Its sad to see that people at times here differenciate them on the basis of colour..Fairer plus fluent english is seen as higher class people where as people with more tanner skin and no english language are looked down upon..Its something ingrained in our society..Here u can see both women and men using skin fairness cream

i concur..Many ppl here know english but they dont follow hollywood movies much as they dont seem to connect to it due to the cultural gap or simply struggle to understand American ascent(even i struggle to understand at times)but in last few years nearly every channel(HBO,STAR MOVIES AND ETC) showing english movies have started showing subtitles so its easier to understand it now..
