This is exactly the info I've been looking for. So, the TW 1.3mm leather grip is actually around 22 grams trimmed. This is only about 4 grams more than a Gamma Hi-Tech which is what I'm currently using. Very interesting...

That's what I want to know too. My hands are starting to blister after switching from synthetic

Are you using it bare or putting an overgrip on it? You might try a soft overgrip like Gamma Supreme and see if that helps.

I have a Gupergrap over it. I'm using the TW 1.3 mm leather grip. I think It might be too thin. I'm going to try a Pacific grip. If that doesn't work I'll go back to synthetic

Hey guys. Can I bother you to tell me what the thickest black leather grip is?

    TW lists Pacific as 1.5mm
    http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Pacific_ATP_Pro_Leather_Grip_Black/descpageACPACIFIC-PPLATPBK.html

There are also these two from Becker and Volkl:
    http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Becker_Leather_Replacement_Grip_Black/descpageACVOLKL-BLGBK.html

    http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Volkl_Leather_Grip_Black/descpageACVOLKL-VLGBK.html

I don't care about the weight, I plan on increasing weight anyway at the handle.

If somebody wants to throw out some advice on an overgrip to match, I'm all ears, but I know this thread isn't about overgrips.

    Thanks!

Anyone ever try adding leather grip on Head Microgel Prestige racquets? Any changes/success?

Yes, that worked for me. I put a Wilson Cushion Pro and OG on my POG OS to build up grip size and *lost* weight in the handle from the original leather.

*But* I was able to use the leather on my 90, and achieve a more head light balance that I was looking for due to the heavier weight of the leather, and I never would have thought of that if it wasn't for this thread.

So, I just had my racquet tech replace two Dunlop Hydramax Comfort grips with Head leather grips. It increased the weight by 6g. I then added a Yonex Super Grap and gained another 4g.

So in all I gained a little over 10 grams.

Keep in mind these are trimmed weights.

    22mm Width Besides TW?

It looks like the TW leather grips are the only ones available in 22mm width?

Are all the others (Head, Prince, Pacific, etc.) 25mm width?

Has anyone weighed Head hydrosorb grip? I want to put a leather grip on my MG prestige with minimal addition of weight. Would the Head leather grip work well for this?

Does anyone know how similar the Becker and Volkl leather grips are? Are the weights and thicknesses the same?

I weighed a trimmed Head Hydrosorb Tour grip at 19 grams and a trimmed Head Leather Tour grip at 22 grams.

Does anyone know wich leather is least thick?

And does anyone know how the TW leather is compared to others?

    thanks

I stretched an overgrip tight on the pallet then put a Volkl leather grip over it. Did increase cushion but I didn't like it. Without the sharp bevels the leather became too vague and slippery feeling. Much prefer overgrip over leather.

Just got one of each from TW. Out of the box:

    Becker leather 36g (!!)
    Volkl leather 31-32g

    Both are black.

Stock synthetic grip (whatever it is) removed from YT Prestige MP: 12g

EDIT: Head tour leather (untrimmed) 27g

so far i have read Volkl has the heaviest grip around(leather grip available in TW) -

i'm trying to find the most heavy leather replacement grip around so i do not have to add lead tape underneath the replacement or add something into the handle.

I'm not concern with the width/thickness of the replacement. Any other suggestions guys?

I'll throw in my contribution to this thread.

Yonex Comfort Grip: 12.3 grams (after it was removed from racquet)
Babolat Leather Grip: 26.6 grams (just removed from packaging - including tape)
Babolat Leather Grip (post trimming and on racquet) - est. 23.07 grams
    Total change on Yonex RDS 003 ( 2008 ) - est. 10.77 grams

Due to the long handle of the RDS 003, I did not have to trim much at all off the grip. However, regardless, my numbers for the Babolat are much heavier than what some others have reported.

Leather Grip update...I have used every leather grip imaginable from the Head, to Wilson, to Volkl....but the TW leather grip (1.3mm) caused blisters within 1 hour. All the above were used with the same overgrips as well. The TW leather grip is noticeably thinner and has a hard feel. Very high quality leather, but does not work for me.

Just some more info on the subject...

I have replaced synthetic grip from Black Ace Mid with GAMMA leater grip from TW (was $7.99 or close to it) and that added 0.5 oz to the frame and 3 HL points to make it 9 points HL at the end. Original grip was 0.65 oz while the leather one showed 1.05 oz on the scale.

How did you like the Becker leather SFrazeur? I just recieved my volkl leather and threw it on my racquet and the response is very nice. Just a very very tad amount thicker than I'd like, but can get used to it no problem. I was using TW's thinnest leather before (28 grams untrimmed I believe) and like the volkl better. Really has a crisp feel when the ball was struck and helped with the maneuverability. Forgot to mention I believe the Volkl is 1.5mm thick.

I've used the BB Leather on one of my PDR GTs for a couple of months now.
I like it. It's firmer than TW leather. It feels dry to the touch, but smooth.
I can only use leather with an overgrip or the racquet would fly out of my hand.

Ya I'm also using a the Volkl Supergrip on top of the leather as well. I think I'm gonna try Becker or Pacific overgrips next though. Like the volkl, but after putting the leather on, it's a bit thick so gonna make the switch to a thinner overgrip. Anyone over tried the Becker overgrips?

Is it fair to say that the Volkl leather grip is the same as Borris Becker's leather?

In my opinion, both b/c the leather grip provides great feel when you make contact with the ball. In addition, the synth one over the leather gives a little bite of cushion which make a great combination of both grips.

I'm going to experiment with a leather grip with an overwrap (Wilson ProGrip) in order to add lower-end weight and a firmer feel. My first preference is the TW leather because of the thickness/weight options.

Am I reading their specs correctly that they are from 28 - 32 grams but only 1.3 - 1.5 mm thick? The ultra-thin Babolat Skin grip is 1.55 grams (per TW's website). That surprised me as I assumed a leather grip would be thicker than a normal non-cushioned synthetic grip.

If I'm wrong, can someone verify the TW Leather Grip specs? Thanks.

after you cut the TW leather to size, it will be much less.
My Gamma or Wilson leather grips are 23 grams after I trim to size, while the Head are 21-22 grams. The TW ones are very long, so they won't be 28-32, but more like 22-23 (I am going on memory here, it has been a while since I have used them).
When I swap out a synthetic grip for a leather grip, I generally find it to add 6-10 grams. Synthetic seem to be around 13-15 trimmed, with leather being 21-23 trimmed.

I'm waiting on the brown Volkl leather grip I ordered fr TW. In the mean time I put some reused lead tape under the stock grip of my Wilson. I also currently have a Supergrap OG on their. I noticed my 1HBH seemed to improve.

could just be due to more practice.:)

I was having some trouble w my BH with my London when I 1st got it. Put a BB leather grip on it and my BH was still the same.

I'm sure it is just due to lack of practice , because after playing the wilson w my improved back hand i had the same success on my london.:)

visually, it seems that the Wilson is a bit more balanced than the BBecker. TW Stats confirm this. Maybe I'll get the two sticks matched (weight/balance) sometime down the road once i figure out what I like.

When the leather grip arrives I'll compare the weight of it with what I currently have on my Wilson.

I do like the feel of the bevels and so far the BB didn't hurt my arm. I had some leather on my Mizuno and it wasn't comfortable. Could have been the string set up. Also w the Mizuno being 12 pts HL I don't think I need to add anymore weight there. If anything I might try to make it less HL by adding lead to the head but need to be careful not to make things too heavy as it is 13.5gs strung.

I only like leather on heavy racquets, unless the racquet was originally spec'd with leather. The added weight of leather on the sub-11.5 ounce frames I've used has always made them feel awkward.

    comparable to volkl brown leather

I've been thinking about going through this thread and compiling all of the data (with due credit of to those that posted) :) I appreciate all of the info shared.

real quick though...I ordered a brown Volkl but guess those things are hard to come by and the expected date of shipping get's pushed back. I'm partial to a brown/tan grip for one particular racquet. I already use the black Volkl & BB leather grips. thinking of asking if i could change my order to what is in stock.

are there any out there that have used the volkl and another brown grip? looking for weight and feel to be similar. Maybe the TW private issue?

TW's the closest you'll get to Volkl leather. An update to my black Volkl leather grip is that I find it is not thick at all after settling in. I believe the grip perfect for me now. Gotta love Volkl Leather :D

how about a heat shrink sleeve and 2 overgrips.. thats about 10grams for the two overgrips and 16 grams for the sleeve. I used to play i may go back since leather grips can have too many variables. the bevels are really nice im only thing about the vibrations think it will be a factor...

Anybody try the new Wilson Hybrid replacement grips? They provide a layer of leather (bottom), cushion (middle) and syn. grip (top). Are they worth the $10?

I find the same thing. My PSLs came with leather grips,..but i found them kind of 'hard' and 'dry'. HOWEVER it makes an EXCELLENT platform for what ever overgrip You might choose to use. :)

Short experiment with leather. Thus far, after four 3-hour trips to the court, it's great. Playing bare Volkl leather, and the jury is still out on whether or not I'll try an overgrip. Great feedback, much less hard on my hand than I'd thought it would be, and gave me the more head-light balance I was hoping for. A nice ride.

Yeah. Leather grips do not seem to have any real traction for my hands. Myself I've gone back to synthetic grip, Gamma Hi-Tec. Best non-leather grips out there.

No. I have had a number of Babolat leather grips. Untrimmed they run about 24-25 grams. Trimmed, they end up at 20-21 grams.

    Just recieved 4 TW leather grips - 1300mm x 25mm x 1.5mm.

Untrimmed, one of them weighed 30 grams, two weighed 29 grams, and one weighed 24 grams.

I trimmed and removed the backing tape on one of the 29 gram ones and its final weight was 20 grams.

I have been playing w a supergrap OG with the TW leather grip on my nCode. I restrung w x1 and changed was going to re wrap but gave the leather a try. I'm happy to say that coupled w a multi the grip isn't as uncomfortable as I thought. It's very tacky and the bevels are sharp. I didn't feel any harsh feedback as I did w the volkl leather on my Mizuno/gamma zo tour set up.

Contemplating going bare TW leather on all my racquets.

Don't sleep on this leather grip. I'm happy with mine.

Babolat Syntec 17.4g and 2mm (info from the back of the box).
Wilson Pro Hybrid 21-23g and 1.6mm. I weighted each one on a scale and one weight 21g, the other 22g and the other 23g. Untrimmed, out of the box with the backing tape on it.

If anyone is interested, i just regripped 4 racquets from Gamma Hi-Tech to TW thin leather grips. It added exactly 8g to all 4 frames. (I trim the grips a little higher than where the handle ends on my Dunlops)

Why would the TW 1.5mm leather grip be true to size and respect the original grip size when the Babolat Skin feel 1.55mm would make you feel like you loose half grip size?
    Stretching effect?
Which synthetic grip to use to respect the original grip size?
