This may seem like a really stupid question for most of you, but if I was to buy a leather replacement grip, would I put it over the original grip or take the original off? Thanks

I think definitely taking the original off.

    off

Take the original off...hence the "replacement" grip.
I just changed from a Prince Duraperf (with a Prince "No Sweat" overgrip) to a Babolat Leather (with no overgrip), and I must say I am very happy with it so far.
The leather has the dry feel of the "No Sweat" overgrip that I like, but the grip handle is smaller than using the Duraperf with the overgrip and I can feel the bevel edges of the grip better, which I also like.
Time will tell how the leather holds up for me in the long run, but for now (I've had it about a month) I think it is great.

TW has a learning section on the website. Look at the top of the page. See the Learning Section link? Everything is there.
