Legit Question for Federer Fans

Let's say Roger hangs up the racquet soon. Who do the Federer fans start to cheer for? I highly doubt it'll be either Nadal or Djokovic for many of you. I ask myself the same question as I see Rafa getting closer and closer to the end. I was personally hoping for an American savior by the time Nadal had retired that I could start rooting for. As of now, it looks like I'll be continuing my quest for a new guy to cheer for!

I have been a Novak fan since like 2007 Canada. Just cheered for Fed against him but that changed after 2018 AO as I saw that a gift Slam beyond expectations and at 2019 Wimbledon I was legitimately neutral.

Beyond Novak it's Shapovalov, Thiem & Tsitsipas. I think I'm set.

Sampras fans were lucky in that they had legitimate tennis players in Djokodal to root for to satiate their hate for Roger.

Fed fans have no one.
Why hate for Roger? I was a big Sampras fan back then, and Roger was the logical one to follow after he was gone. He was literally the upgrade of Sampras. But Federer himself will have no successor indeed.

I personally would be very glad to watch tennis as a neutral. No pressure to root for someone. I don’t see any of the so-called nexgen becoming a great player. Maybe one of the youngsters. I kind of like Musetti and Alcaraz.

Leo and Lenny.

I want to root for Tsitsipas, but I can't root for a player that has a 1HBH lol.

I want to root for Tsitsipas but I can't stand him.

- Tsitsipas has a pleasant game but bad attitude
- Medvedev has a lot of qualities, a warrior mentality but bad attitude also
- Thiem is lovely, perfect attitude but he's a brainless ball basher
- Zverev is Zverev

It's hard for me to root for any of them.

There can be only one player who can take Fed's reigns.

Djokovic obviously since he is only player for the next 100+ years who will have any chance to surpass butt picker's slam count and thus take him out of any GOAT conversation forever.

Tsitsipas, I dont like his attitude and the 1HBH kills it for me, so hes a big NO
Medvedev, I cant stand his game
Thiem, I thought it would be him, but another 1HBH guy just and I have never seen such inconsistent play from a top tier player
Zverev, I was actually thinking he'd be my new guy. I try to watch and root for him, but something about him I just cant root for.

And for that reason, I can never root for Novak. I respect him and he will likely go down as the best ever, but he hurt me last week with that win over Rafa. haha

I'll let someone make me cheer for him/her, even if it's on single tournament basis.

There's Rublev, whom I could have rooted for, but he lacks talent compared to the top next genners, so his fans are probably bound to suffer a lot and get constantly disappointed.

Zverev is the most frustrating one. You know he has all the weapons, but doesn’t know how to use them.

As Federer fan I feel exactly same way about Nadal which is exactly how Sampras fans felt 15 years ago about Federer and how they "suddenly" all supported Nadal. It's a circle of life folks :)

Meddy is a cool person. Tsitsipas is too philosophical, hate it on personal level. On court Tsitsipas is great to watch. Offcourt, not so much. Same as Osaka.

I want players to be champions, use more actions than words. Not philosopher. Better think less than think too abstract.

Whoever manages to beat Djokovic or Nadal in a Grand Slam final, but it seems like that ship has sailed and even if they would eventually lose a final, it would come at 34/35+ of age which isn't that impressive anyway from the opponent. It's a joke, that's what it is. A weak era joke!

If Nick wasnt so psychotic, I think he'd be a prime candidate for me to root for. He brings excitement and borderline chaos to tennis, reminds me of a young Agassi, minus all the internet trolling.
If they weren't the idiots that they are, Nick and Sascha would be the top 2 today without a doubt. Maybe Medvedev Tsitsipas Thiem could challenge them but at their absolute best those other guys don't stand a chance. In this scenario Djokodal would be out of it too, for once a younger champion kills off an older champ, that older champ is more or less out

You are right. It's too late. Now rafans and nolefams can easily brush aside the losses like Fedfans did vs Novak. The age excuse will always be there to wield for us. Next gen missed their shot. Now they will not be taken too seriously.

Until 34 years age, number of next gen players that have beaten Rafa - 0
Number of next gen players that have beaten Djokovic - 0.

Now rafa is 35 (Same age Federer was in 2017) and Novak is 34 (Same age Federer was in 2016).

Now beating them is less impressive. And still they can't beat 2 guys in a row. In fact, apart from a Pandemic and a stupid Djokovic, they would have won 11/11 last slams. Only Thiem got a chance to win when both of them were out.

You should check with your fellow Sampras fans. They know who they are and they are quite boring.
