Nadal would be defaulted out of every single match.

Time violation warning, point penalty, game, set, match.

There has never been a player who violates the rules and cheats as much as Rafa, he has no right to ever complain to the umpire about anything.

You realise that tennis would be a laughing stock if that happened? The ATP has 20 seconds between points, which is ridiculously short. Just accept that some people play fast and others play slow.

Even if they gave it five more seconds, Nadal would still be lagging behind.

How is it short when there was continuous play before?

nah brah. 20 secs is heaps, plenty of guys do fine. players adapt to conditions. nadz would just wipe less, djok would bounce ball less, etc

only reason ppl take longer than 20 is coz they can

btw op - unfair to pick out nadz. all players game. give em an inch n they take the proverbial. its a war out there and u are stupid if u dont take every advantage u can get

No one goes over the limit consistently like Rafa. It's not like they made the limit 20s at random. It's not Rafa's choice, he has to play within the rules or get off the court. e.g. he has no right to delay the point when the server is ready to serve, and then get another 1st serve.

He is not an exception, why should one be made for him?

And its not just time between points, Rafa always makes everyone else wait before he's ready to walk out or between changeovers.

If the rules were actually enforced, Rafa would abide by them. At the same time, theres situations when the players definitely deserve time. Like the AO final this year, plenty of occasions 20 seconds were too short.

To default a player is too harsh. I think point penalty is severe enough to keep players in check, because losing the point everytime for going over the time limit puts a lot of weight on your shoulders.

I'm fine with them enforcing them for all players. Just singling out Rafa as he's the worst offender, from day one of his career.

The few times he does get a warning, he never reacts to it nicely. I'm sure the whole tactic is his part of getting a mental edge and I'm sick of it.

No other top player behaves like this, now or in the past.

Will the whining ever stop from some people about Nadal? He's is not the only one who goes over the time limit, and should not be singled out for it alone. If he hadn't beaten Fed so many times, and just stayed in his place like a good boy,we would not be having this conversation right now.

Oh,and it's funny that even more of these Nadal hate threads popped up today after Fed's near loss to Benny. I think maybe you Fed fans need to find someone else to take your angst out on. Especially considering Nadal isn't even in the tournament anymore, but the guy who has beaten Fed 6 out of the last 7 times they've played is. That guy is also in his semi, and has beaten him in 3 slams over the past year as well.

At least know your rules before spouting off. ATP/ITF is 25 sec with the benefit of ball kids at most events, USTA is 20 sec with no ball kids/retrievers

They need a shot clock or play clock like in basketball and football, except it would be a serve clock (tm). Once the point is over, serve clock starts counting down. Goes off before the ball is struck - point penalty. Of all the sports, though, baseball needs it the most. Rafa would make a great major league pitcher.

Nadal wouldn't be defaulted if the rules were enforced. He would be rushed after being warned, and then he would have less of a rhythm and would probably spray more unforced errors from a lapse in concentration and general pissy mood, leading to more early losses like this Rosol one here.

Instead of a point penalty, I would just call a fault and restart the clock for the second serve. Other than that, I'm all for it.

Agreed. Maybe we should get Tiriac in on this thread, and he can implement it at his next tournament.
