In my tennis playing and coaching life I came across many tennis players and coaches who impacted my career and/or personality.

Last year when my daughter got transferred from UNM to JMU -- James Madison University, Va. on a Tennis Scholarship I came across Maria Malerba, Women Tennis Coach, JMU. I believe she was with this College from 1974. For 40 years she provided unmatched services to the tennis players of JMU and she did it with professional dignity and respect. All the players and college staff loved her and still love her.

A couple of days she retired and I was just thinking to thank her through this note. Please join me in appreciating the professional services rendered to JMU by this noble lady Maria Malerba.

Let's unite to give credit when it is due.

Well done coach Malerba. Hope they can find someone worthy to fill her shoes.

My daughter was recruited by Maria 4 years ago and while she opted for another university, my daughter cried when she was on the phone with Maria telling her she wasn't going to JMU. Maria was the only coach (other than the one she ended up playing for) that she felt a bond with during the recruiting process. Maria is a great coach and a very special person. Congratulations to her on an amazing career and we wish her the very best!
