I am an hardcore federer fan.

    1. High hopes before a grandslam.
    2. Do all kinds of analyses and predictions of Roger winning the slam despite all odds against him.
    3. Convince themselves by all means that Roger is going to win the slam.
    4. Slam begins.
    5. Roger wins initial rounds against players outside of top 100 effortlessly.
    6. Loses in quarterfinals to a player who overpowers him.
    7. Fans disappointed and lose interest in tennis.
    8. Wait for the next slam

    and the cycle repeats....

    did I miss anything??

    Weak era
1-No, I see him as an outside contender at best(the guy's 30 and has tremendous amount of mileage given his dominance and consistency in year before), though I hope for one last slam title.

2-No, didn't pick him to win any slam this year.

    3-No.
    .
    4-Ok.
    .
5-Effortlessly through the open rounds? You mean like against Falla at Wimbledon last year? Or Simon this year? We aren't in 2006 anymore, Fed is old.

6-Very possible, I could see Tsonga beating him here in 4 sets.

7-Dissapointed? Yes, lose interest? No, I'm a fan of tennis on top of being a fan of Fed.

    8-Yes.

Boy it really is good to hear that from a fed fan! Cuz in most cases people act as if there were no tennis invented before fed won his GS titles!!

Could you name me a few people who fit this bill, please.
Don't name Fedhaters trying to mock him.

So we should only get behind winners, even if they bore us to death?

Maybe I shouldn't be so snippy, but I could really care less about the title tally at this point in the Fed-man's career. As a tennis fan, he's one of those players who I find genuinely special to watch. Whenever he's on the courts, we get to see one of the all-time greats in action. That's a treat for me considering that the sands of time will catch him soon enough.

Another player that I always loved to watch was "The Magician", Fabrice Santoro. I even got to see him up close on several occasions and I don't know if I'll ever witness a more entertaining brand of tennis. Even though he didn't destroy the ball on par with many of his peers, he always made his opponents earn it when they notched a win against him. Like Roger, Fabrice also seemed to play with a genuine love for the game. I think he's a similar example of a someone who has dignified the sport through his class, tenacity, and innovation. I wish I could say the same about lots of other current players, but I suppose that when a "special" player comes along, that's unfortunately also a rarity.

    9. Feel cocky that we have 16 slams and GOAThood in the bag while the others agonize over 10 alms (or 3 or 0)

Yes, you forgot about the part where Roger states in a press conference before the tournament that he is playing well, feels great and is looking forward to playing the tournament.

Wait, did Roger win that slam or not? I could post pics of Djokovic's win at AO, IW and Miami, yet somhow beating Djokovic and losing to Nadal tops that? Federer won't win another slam, it just depends when he loses.

LOL no winning 16 slams tops that.

Most Federer fans here realise that he has very slim chances of picking up another slam and so we enjoy each match he plays as they come. And most of us enjoyed that Federer-Djokovic match a lot
