Before the Australian Open settled in Kooyong, Melbourne in 1972, the tournament used to move from city to city across the country. Does anyone have a full list of the cities each year's tournament was played at before 1972?

Can anyone list each city for each year? For example, I know 1969 was in Brisbane.

Is Milton in Adelaide? I believe that White City is in Sydney.

Milton is a suburb in inner west Brisbane. I haven't been in Oz for a few years now, but I used to live just around the corner from Milton. No less than Martina Navratilova claimed that the Milton centre court was the best grass court she had ever played on. It was a beautiful court.

I was very very sad when it was ripped up.

Milton Grounds is the Adelaida´s facility name if I recall right, ain´t it? I just don´t recall the Brisbane facility name...White City is Sidney and Kooyong is Melbourne.

Good one. Before WWI, the Australians (Brookes) and NZ players (Wilding) played for the same DC team, then called Australassia. The main power in world tennis just before War.Wilding´s death at the front broke what could have been a nice rivalry with France and US in the early 20´s...

    Grief

Yes as a new zealander it is a grief that new zealand gave away its rights to this tournament in the late 20s because if we hadn't we would still be sharing the hosting of the tournament with the australians. Wildings contributions to the davis cup team that made australasia in consideration for being a major, appear to have been lost.

Just to be clear, Milton was in Brisbane. All venues for the Australian championships can be found in Joseph Johnson's definitive history 'Grand Slam Australia - the story of the Australian Open Tennis Championships'. It is a nice hardcover book published in 1985 by Courtney Books. In addition to rotating between various cities in Australia and New Zealand, it has also been held at different venues within some of those cities.

    MELBOURNE - 1905, 1911, 1914, 1924, 1927, 1930, 1933, 1935, 1939, 1948, 1950, 1953, 1957, 1961, 1965, 1968, 1972 and every year since.
    SYDNEY - 1908, 1919, 1922, 1925, 1928, 1931, 1934, 1937, 1940,1947, 1951, 1954, 1958, 1962, 1966, 1970 AND 1971.
    BRISBANE - 1907, 1915, 1923, 1956, 1960, 1964 and 1969.
    ADELAIDE - 1910, 1920, 1926, 1929, 1932, 1936, 1938, 1946, 1949, 1952, 1955, 1959, 1963 and 1967.
    PERTH - 1909, 1913 and 1921.
    CHRISTCHURCH NZ - 1906
    HASTINGS NZ - 1912
