I would ignore that user. He's arguably the most infamous troll on the forum. His former username was Fedace.

4 out of 6 players in texas lineup are from outside U.S. and without getting in to anything, Baylor has a way of getting kids eligible that texas does not.

A lot if teams are 2-3 players away from winning a title, that's half a line-up

I am glad that USC was tested today and we are not rolling over like Baylor is doing in a pathetic manner.

Fair enough - but Texas has an 8 man starting line up, including doubles. Indeed 4 of the starting 8 are International players.

    Grab a tissue Vik.

English is a second language in most European countries Feddie. I would think someone as worldly as you already knew that. Come to think of it, they could probably get into Standford if they wanted to or the coach had the ability to recruit and attract them there. LOL

Yes. But he has a german last name, ja?
Und, tell us more about how he is a crook. Having been in and around college tennis since the 80s, My impression since the late 90s about matt knoll was that he honestly tell guys that baylor is nowhere near as awesome as the west coast and florida schools...and that there is less to do so as a matter of course, his players train hard and improve.

So he gets some good recruits from all over.

Texas picks up Mexican Adrian Ortiz for next year. Career high 119 in the ITF and has a win over strong Duke commit Nicolas Alvarez. Has alsoplayed some top juniors(Montgomery,Garin,Nishioka,Baldi and Safiullin) although has lost all of those in routine fashion.

They also added Julian Zlobinsky who had a high ITF junior ranking of 90 though I didn't see many wins over names that I recognized.

I finally made it out there, the new courts are a loooong ways off, from what I could see. I'd be shocked if they are done by the spring.

Well that's disappointing. No use to even drive up to Austin to see matches if there's no worthwhile facility. Why didn't they leave Penick-Allison until the other was 100% done?

There's endowment for a new med/law school (I can't remember which it is) which has a specific timeframe as well and is bigger revenue generator. Therefore, it controls the timeline.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if they do manage to get the new courts/center done by spring. There's a lot that can be done in a short period of time if they've planned it well.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATE: Just found out it's a new teaching hospital that's going in where there the UT Penick-Allison courts used to be and construction is due to start late 2014...so they couldn't wait on demolishing the courts.

You should come up for the ITA Kick off in January, it will be held at the Indoor courts in Steiner Ranch, it's a good place to watch matches and UT will be hosting Minnesota, Florida State and Michigan.

Now I'm confused, this makes it sound like the project at the 51st street location is only "interim" and there will be another separate center built ??

AUSTIN, Texas – University of Texas Women's Athletics Director Chris Plonsky announced Monday the appointment of Darija Klaic (pronounced DAR-ee-uh KLICH) as UT's interim head women's tennis coach, effective Aug. 1. Klaic served as an assistant coach at Texas the last nine seasons under former head coach Patty Fendick-McCain, who announced her retirement last month.

"We are confident we will land an experienced leader and head coach of the Texas women's tennis program," Plonsky said. "Until that head coach is named, Darija Klaic will serve as interim head coach. It is important to ensure there is minimization of disruption as the orientation date for new and returning student-athletes approaches. We appreciate Darija's willingness to serve in this role as we complete our search and continue to watch the progress on both the interim tennis facility at Guadalupe and 51st Streets and the new Texas Tennis Center, which has been approved by UT's Board of Regents."

The 2010 ITA Texas Region Assistant Coach of the Year, Klaic helped Texas to nine NCAA top-20 finishes, including three NCAA top-10 showings, in her nine seasons on the Forty Acres. With Klaic on staff, Texas won Big 12 tournament titles in 2012 and 2013, a share of the Big 12 regular-season crown in 2007 and accumulated 25 All-Big 12 selections.

The Longhorns ranked among the top-25 in the final ITA team poll seven times under Klaic and Fendick-McCain, including each of the last five seasons. Klaic was instrumental in the development of two-time All-Americans Aeriel Ellis and Breaunna Addison. Last season, Addison became UT's first Big 12 Player of the Year since 1999.

A two-time doubles All-American at Washington, Klaic joined Fendick-McCain's coaching staff at UW in 2004 and made the move with Fendick-McCain to UT in 2005.

The University of Texas will have no further comment until a new head women's tennis coach is announced.

Yeah like as well as they've planned this coaching search? I would take even odds that this drags out and they just end up keeping the interim as the full-time.

I doubt that, they can get a big name in there, but honestly I think Darija is a really good coach, my kids worked with her at the UT tennis camp quite a bit, and she's a much, much nicer person than....other coaches.

I am definitely one who is surprised that the head coaching position at UT is still vacant. From an outsiders perspective they've got all the resources necessary to be a top 10 program as well being a contender for national championships. Obviously it's not as good as it is perceived or else they wouldn't be having so many coaches turn the position down. With that being said, here's hoping that they don't "reach" on their hire and actually bring someone in who is deserving of the position. I am in no way a UT fan, but think the program "deserves" a strong and qualified coach.

And being an *** doesn't win you matches, nor does it make a point. Atatu said she was a good coach. Maybe she'll get the permanent gig if they have a strong fall. We'll see.

And what can you tell us about he resume and personal interaction with her that leads you to know that she can't push or be tough?

Coaches coach, players play. You need to understand the difference.

Still no women's coach ? I heard they wanted the Rice coach and she told them no, and she's an Austin native, I think. Apparently they really want a woman, so that eliminates some good applicants.

Elizabeth is a great coach. I'm glad she said no! Go owls! The Rice women have a nice program and a brand new facility. She probably is pretty happy there. I do hope the horns get a good coach. They are my 2nd favorite team. :)

I agree that was the right choice, one school has a brand new multi million dollar facility and the other one has been very vague about what the plans are for a new facility.

Rumor is that the salary offer to Elizabeth was matched by Rice, which means it wasn't very "Longhorn-like". If Texas wanted her and they weren't willing to make her an offer Rice couldn't match, then they really don't care too much about women's tennis. Which we could have already gathered by the facility situation.

I thought this had already been posted, but I have heard people say that Danielle McNamara from Yale, who did very well there and just "retired" to spend more time with her infant child, is already recruiting off the books and will take the job when she comes off maternity leave. Someone had made a wisecrack about the big money offer making her forget all about the kid.

As Silver Fox mentioned, she has accepted the job but hasn't been officially named head coach yet. May have to do something with Klaic being named interim head coach for a specified amount of time (2 months?). Expect the announcement to come in the next week or 2.

I was in Austin this past weekend and will be spending a decent amount of time therein the upcoming month. I did not get a chance to head over to the courts but I really hope that Longhorn tennis will be enjoyable to watch this year like it was last year. The idea of having to watch on the side at intramural courts is really unappealing to me.

The schedule has been released, they are going to be on the road this fall, then they will be hosting matches at the indoor facility at Steiner Ranch this winter (Weller). Looks like the first outdoor match will be at the end of February against TCU at Caswell Tennis Center (good luck parking). They host Wake Forest March 1 at Caswell, should be a good one to watch. The schedule shows a match at "Whitaker Tennis Complex" on March 22 and April 8th. But then more matches at Caswell.

Has anyone yet seen the 3 freshmen hit/play? Will they or Reichman be able to crack the lineup in singles? doubles?

BTW, where is the team practicing?
