From Head Coach at Michigan to Volunteer Assistant. That's quite the fall from grace...
more like grease
VVik will love him
McNamara was announced today as the new women's coach - release
where do you guys think John Mee will play in the team this year?
Any news, updates?
liam Caruana will play i think, he won the grandslam in texas(our big annual tournament) which had commits for some top schools
A&M OSU Wake forest etc so he will definitly be in the line up
Its funny to think about these guys becasue going to newks i went and hung out with george goldhoff
he set a sonic cup straw on fire inside the van at night by accident with a car lighter
its hilarious knowing how childish a lot of the guys are
First team ranking out this week -- Texas at #9 seems a bit low. SHO gets no respect with a #13 ranking, and no singles ranking for Glasspool or Goldhoff.
TCU ranked at #37 shows me that these ranking are nearly worthless at this point. They have a chance to be top 15, and could push top 10.
Well the singles rankings are based on fall results. Soren is going to be really hard to beat this year. His game is unshakable and he added a lot more variety last year. He will be top 10.
Glasspool will be ranked high for sure. Berkowicz could be top 50, he's dangerous to anyone with his style of play.
Goldhoff is the wildcard for this team. Will he channel the fall 2013 form or spring 2014 form?
Two weeks until they host Minnesota, Florida State and Michigan indoors, we will know a lot more after that weekend.
I'll probably be at those matches
Tomorrow the spring season starts, they've got players from Arkansas, Texas A/M Corpus and Texas Tech coming into town.
I was getting cabin fever with this weather so I went out to the indoor facility to watch the Texas Invitational. Some good matches, Berkowitz and Goldhoff looked very tough in doubles, and Berkowitz had a great singles match against the TXAM Corpus guy coming back from 1-4 in both the second and third sets to win 36,75, 75.
Soren looked rock solid in singles and dubs. Saw John Mee play and he destroyed a guy from Arkansas 60,64. Mee has a very flat two handed backhand that was like a laser...William Jou also looked pretty solid...the indoor facility has very little seating, maybe room for 100 people comfortably, I was surprised. The courts are nice though, and the lighting is very good.
stealing from the neighbors are we ?
Do you think it's worth going to the Indoor facility? Good enough seating and viewing ?
This was a pic from the A&M-CC site from over the weekend - looks like seating is just between courts so you'd be right on top of the action on that particular court
That's hilarious, I'm in that picture, I'm the good looking one. Anyway, to answer the question, I think it's worth it to go to the indoor facility, you get to see some good tennis close up.
Personally I do not like watching tennis from the side. I prefer a behind the baseline high angle. But it seems to be the only option this year in Austin so I'll have to stick it out.
Tulsa has live streaming of the match tonight - no sound though.
Wow. Riechmann at #3 if fun to watch. It looks like tennis straight out of 1985. Serve and Volley. 100% of the time. Played poorly in doubles with Otiz-Ruiz, but singles, win or lose, dude is aggressive!
No Goldhoff or Glasspool - lots of 3rd sets coming up this one could go either way.
very tight match, why no Goldhoff or Glasspool?
Not sure but got to be sick or injured you'd think. Looks like they are starting to pull away on several courts.
Hess-Olesen barely holds on at 1 - good final point.
5 matches went 3 sets. Texas pulls it out.
going to be a very tough atmosphere in Fayetteville Sunday afternoon, but think UT will win that 5-2
No Glasspool or Goldhoff again today for TX against Arkansas - still too close to call at this point.
I'm ready to call this one for Texas as it looks to be heading towards a 6-1 or 7-0 win.
it was a 5-2 for Texas, with 2 guys out in bottom, even Texas not wins too high
nice wins for Texas playing without 2 of their Top 6 against stout competition
I think the Riechmann playing above Naumann and Mee experiment is probably over.
"I think the Riechmann playing above Naumann and Mee experiment is probably over."
Mee had a very tough weekend losing both of his matches at the #5 line, against Tulsa and Arky. Not great teams I wouldn't say.
Riechmann on the other hand won at #3 line against Tulsa, and nearly pulled out the win against Ark.
My guess is:
What's the story with Homs? Is he still there?
Homs is still there for sure. His senior speech from last week is available on the Texassports website. Perhaps someone can comment on whether he is injured?
Reichman likely takes his spot in the lineup however, and makes Texas slightly stronger than they were last year.
Homs had a great record last year at 6 and from what I could tell his game had potential to get better. I actually thought he would be playing higher than Naumann this year. I didn't expect the sudden love for Riechmann this year. It'll be interesting to see how that plays out.
Homs was a rock last year and Texas looked shaky at the lower end of the lineup last weekend. Would expect him back in if he's healthy/in form.
Hoping to go to the matches on Sunday.
Missing the old facility. 40 minute drive to this indoor center, when the old one was a stones throw away.
I hear you about the distance Clemson, but these matches would never have been at the old tennis center anyway, as these are the only indoor courts that texas has ever had. Later on in the outdoor season it will get interesting with a combo of intramural courts and city of austin courts.
I'm on my way to Weller as I write this.
I shoulda went earlier to see the big ten match
Whitehurst bros trying to serve for doubles point
FSU gets doubles point on a lucky bad miss hit volley on match point that went for a clean winner
doubles match point
Lock has a stellar backhand. But anything he tries SHO can do better and nullify the attempted attack
CGM gets a big tiebreak over Naumann. Pulse of the match on courts 4 and 3 right now
Gracia going to try and serve it out on 5 at 6-3 5-4.
First point, forehand error long. 0-15
Forehands force an error 15-15
Overhead smash winner for Texas 15-30
Return long, 30-30
Texas wins after am exchange at the net and a Gracia mishit, 30-40
Texas goes to net put a great backhand pass from FSU, 40-40
Match point, break point:
Wow!! Riechmann gets into net after a good chip return and smashes an overhead which Gracia returns as a lob, Reichmann retreats but his shot goes wide as he attempts a lob to counter. Match FSU 6-3 6-4
Glasspool makes 3 first ball forehand errors and another error to drop serve and lose to Rinaldi 7-5 6-4
Whats goin on here? Texas should be better?
Going to a 3rd set between naumann and CGM
Disastrously bad last game. Both players making poor errors.
1. Perhaps the biggest thing is missing Top player in Goldhoff, and Glasspool at #3 is, while playing, not yet "game-ready".
2. For the 4th season in a row, Center is struggling to get the right alignment in Doubles. Relying on winning 4 singles matches against top 10 teams, even with Glasspool and Goldhoff is not a risky proposition at best. The Fall season should be spent with more intensity around the right doubles competition and giving them enough doubles mathces to square those pairings.
Above should read: "...Top 4 player in Goldhoff..."
Separate names with a comma.
