Last I heard both Banzer and Telles were waiting to clear the NCAA Clearinghouse
hmm that should have been taken care of back in the fall when he first arrived, might be some expense account stuff since he played some tour stuff and of course academics are different everywhere.
Though I think classes just started this week in Austin so it could be he was not eligible to play until the semester officially begins which would be this week, but I am just spitballing right now.
I was told Banzer didn't arrive in Austin until January; not sure about Telles.
Class started today.
Thanks that probably answers the question, especially if Banzer plays this weekend
I just looked at the schedule for this year, looks like they will be playing matches at Westwood Country Club and at the Polo Club (south) in the Spring. They can't build that new facility fast enough !
Banzer is listed at #3 for Texas for KO Weekend. Goldhoff, Scott, Banzer, Ortiz, Riechmann, Mee, Zlobinsky
That will help quite a bit. They go from not looking like a tournament team to looking like a #30 type of team.

Yeah good match
Um, we lost the first 4 matches. Wouldn't exactly call that "good".
I wish they would do better but center is a dumb add
Really gutsy effort vs Ole Miss. Trying to rally from a big deficit.
and did they win? Nope.
Not they didn't win, but I heard the officials tried to give it to them.
My friend just told me center is running the players off the roster, caruana quit because he absolutely hated it.
Center needs to change, there's a difference between being a good coach and chasing off players.
Caruana got a win over a utr 15 player(ranked 768) in the futures in california earlier this week. big win for him
Hated what? The team? College tennis? Studying? UT? Austin? Center himself?
The coach and team with him.
Loved austin and the school.
Looks the Horns are going to take this one over SMU - Goldhoff up 5-3 in the 3rd and Banzer up 4-1 in the 3rd - they only need 1 of those.
No. 26 Texas 4, No. 49 SMU 2

6 Julian Zlobinsky (UT) def. Arkadijs Slobodkins (SMU), 6-3, 6-4
Center is a nice guy. Pretty sure a lot of current and ex players would agree. This year was always going to be tough and I have no doubt he will build it back up to the level it's been over the last few years. Stop moaning, get real and start supporting. Just an idea
Yeah true. Will this team be worse than the rebuilding years with Sitaram playing #1? I think just a tad. Those rebuilding teams were like 20-25 ranking quality teams while this team looks to be around 30-35.
Wouldn't you say that's mainly due to the loss of Caruna this spring? Still would like to understand more behind why he left.
I will ask, but the main jist was he didn't like center.
Specifically center, because he enjoyed the team but the coaching is what made him through it away.
Must have been ugly for a guy of that caliber at a school like Texas to not come back in the spring and burn the rest of the year to play juniors and futures. Then again, Center may not of granted a release forcing Caruna to leave mid-year so he can show up next January at another school should he go back.
That could be it, i can get some pretty in depth information about it.
When a player is as good as Caruana, you as the coach need to just let him be and be at the top of the lineup. He doesn't listen to you? So what, he's a lot better than anyone else on the team. Michael Center, the ego has landed again. Refused to shelve it for the sake of keeping what would have been one of the elite national players.
What utter tosh! It's a team. If you're good enough you will rise to the top. You earn your spot. Anyone that's not willing to work for their place probably needs to go and play for themselves rather than a team. I have no idea if this was actually the case or just more of the usual Center-hate.
This just ignore him, makes it more enjoyable to read and talk College Tennis
Oh yeah that's the best way to handle things. Ignore them. Ignore all the losses this year.
The team was good the past 2 seasons but now we are back in a "rebuilding year". We were in rebuilding mode when I started this thread! Center has had more down years than good ones recently. Why is it that other top programs don't have these down years?
Tennessee is down, Illinois has been up and down, OU looks down at the moment, OSU was down for years and is now back on an upswing, UofF is struggling, Tulsa is down, Duke is down, UK is down, Ole Miss was down but looking up. And you don't see all those fans flaming their team.
Reality is every year there's about 3-4 teams with a real shot at winning the title, sometimes less than that.
Big match coming up this weekend with Stanford Cardinal. Are the longhorns ready ?
Probably not, UT is ranked around 26th now, Stanford should win but they haven't really played any tough competition yet so we will see.
Chad - VV rarely, perhaps never, says anything positive about the program. How or why he follows Longhorn tennis is beyond me. It makes him feel good to bash the program, so perhaps he needs it in his life for that reason. His critique is not to be taken seriously, rather it should be treated as pure amusement.

I see mine deleted and i didn't ask for it...
Maybe your posts quoted the deleted posts?
A little too much inside baseball maybe? I'd like to hear from Chad he made the request. My conspiracy theory is someone got to him or TW. Am I next?
win over Stanford is really nice !
ClarckC is correct. If you quoted their post, it was deleted.
@andfor, Yes, Chad made the request.
ah, ok Thank you
I do not know who Chad is. I do not bash the program to feel good. I am holding TEXAS to a higher standard than everyone else in this thread. if that is a problem than please I will plead guilty. If you are ok with the Longhorn tennis program being barely a threat and falling behind all the other Big 12 teams than keep smiling my friend.
Did Chad Hill ask to have his entire account removed as well?
who is he?
Chad Hill. RIP
Good win for Texas over Wake today, Banzer came through big time in a third set buster.
For this particular team, that is a great win! I don't know how many of those they have in them, but that one was great.
Texas' tennis facilities would rank in the bottom 10% for D1 schools over the past two seasons. Given that, the fact that they can recruit, and compete with Wake at the moment is nothing short of spectacular.
It's Texas. Let's be serious. They could play in a Walmart parking lot and they should still be competing at a top-10 level.
