Pretty good win for Texas over Washington. 6-1 is a convincing scoreline.
It really hurts to see #23 next to Texas.
they will be moving up soon
No fight vs USC. We didn't even win a set.
Center needs to give this team a kick up the rear. Wait he can't do that because his time should be over.
Do we have chance vs Pepperdine?
Naumann did but the rest of the team didn't. What's happened to Holiner? Losing 0 and 1 to anyone is bad but losing like that to Sofaer is horrible.
It's very eye-opening to see these lopsided scores. It's either that this team dosen't have the talent or they don't have the fight. I do not believe the talent is that far behind I just think they don't bring it.
The line-up is a mess. It should be
Holiner should not see the court for a while. I mean #6 is Pepperdine's weakness.
Is it also possible that they were just beaten by a much better team? I'm not saying that they aren't playing up to ability levels, but I've said before that Pepperdine 1-4 is as good as anyone. Sarkissian at 2 is the real deal and although unranked now, Tearney was in the 30's last year and Alcantra at 4 was Fresno's #1 last year. Sofaer at 6 is significantly improved. What's a mystery for Pepperdine is what has happened to Mousheg at 5. He seems to have checked out.
Here's the thing man. We are TEXAS. TEXAS! Not Texas Tech or TCU or Baylor but TEXAS. TEXAS.
Thanks for putting texas in caps... that helped things become so much more clear! Hope you guys turn it around.
the only player I like seeing was Andrew Korinek.. what happened to Texas tennis ? the big serve, big forehand is gone .. everyone of those guys are grinders ,except for Korinek ... they can't out grind the better grinders ...
Isn't tennis and grinding kinda synonymous these days?
Geez, a year ago we were thinking we had Harrison Adams locked up and everyone could move down and UT could be a top 10 program, now it's looking kind of rough.
I wonder how Jean Andersen and Vlad Mladenov are feeling these days after abandoning the Longhorns.
Hard to say. Maybe they for any number of reasons are happy they're gone. Do you know why they left?
might have hurt them to not have Coach Tony Martinez there helping them this year.
It feels like it's been about 3 years since Texas has played a match.
Where is Center? I want him to explain how he will make this team get a big win.
Lost to FSU for the first time ever:
1. #89 Dominic Cotrone (FSU) def. Sudanwa Sitaram (UT) -- 6-7 (2-7), 6-0, 6-4
2. Benjamin Lock (FSU) def. #80 Daniel Whitehead (UT) -- 4-6, 6-4, 6-4
3. Jordan Kelly-Houston (FSU) def. Nick Naumann (UT) -- 4-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-2
4. Lloyd Glasspool (UT) def. Blake Davis (FSU) - 3-6, 6-4, 6-0
5. David Holiner (UT) def. Anderson Reed (FSU) -- 6-4, 5-7, 6-2
6. Michael Rinaldi (FSU) def. Andrew Korinek (UT) def.-- 7-5, 6-4
Order of finish: 4, 3, 6, 1*, 5, 2
1. Andres Bucaro / Benjamin Lock (FSU) def. #11 Chris Camillone / David Holiner (UT) -- 8-6
2. Ben Chen / Daniel Whitehead (UT) def. Jordan Kelly-Houston / Anderson Reed (FSU) -- 8-2
3. Dominic Cotrone / Blake Davis (FSU) def. Sudanwa Sitaram / Jacoby Lewis (UT) -- 8-1
Order of finish: 3, 2, 1*
Where is he?? Where is Michael Center? He needs to answer for this debacle.
Our top 3 folded after winning the first set? Unacceptable. If it was SMU it would be unacceptable, let alone Texas.
It appears he is not monitoring this forum. Is that a surprise?
Well they lost to UVA 5-2, Sitaram and Naumann both won in three sets, UVA can already clinched by then, but still, it's encouraging, especially to see Naumann step up. Glasspool also went three with Domijan
what happened to dave holiner this year? His progress in college has been quite disappointing. I was expecting big things from him especially this yr.
Good wins for those guys. Also good play from Glasspool. Not our worst performance of the year.
I wouldn't blame too much on Center. I remember Holiner had always lacked intensity throughout the match. One of most streaky players I've seen. When he's struggling, he struggles a lot... I was hoping could turn it around. I think he has a pretty solid game when playing at a high level
If Texas can just draw a legit #1, they wouldn't be a Top 5 team with the additions next yr.
i mean "would"
Yes, he played very well. I watched most of that match. No shame in losing to Virginia. There's a reason they're #1. They have a really, really good team.
Why? He does a world class whine.
For all you Center lovers, let me ask you a question. Who under Center's coaching has gotten better in his 4 years? Who has gotten worse? The list for worse is far longer. Anyone remember Ben Chen? Yeah I don't either.
where is Center? I want him to answer for this. I am very displeased with the state of the program as are many Longhorn fans. Put Center in a canoe with Brown and Barnes and shp[ them out to sea.
Silly me, I came to this thread thinking I might find fellow Longhorn supporters and instead I find a barrage of negative comments. They do read them you know. For what it's worth I think the team has already made improvements from last year and expect a more successful season.
^^^its mostly on person.
Don't give me this nonsense. I have been deeply displeased with the teams performance for several years.
Tell me smiler how much to do support Longhorn tennis? If you appreciated the history and the program you would know this is not acceptable.
Sorry my bad - what I mean is that I support the team, as in the coach and players not the name/tradition. I realise those things are important but I'm more of a people person. It's great when they do well, and constructive criticism fine when they don't. Slagging off individual players or coaches doesn't sit well with me.
disagree with vicious vik
Not sure what vicious vik is talking about with the history of the program. He opens up the thread talking about how disappointed he is with the team since 08 but in 09 the team got to the final four. The year after that, even though they got upset in the sweet 16 and probably shouldn't have lost, they had the best regular season ever in texas tennis history. Not sure what vicious vik's vendetta with center is either. How many final 4's before center? 1. How many since him? 3. Vicious vik acts as if he's a fan of the tennis program and has some sort of deep knowledge of the history but hes basically only looking at a period since 2008. If he looked at the team before center, or even in center's early years when he was just establishing himself as the coach he would know that the true history of the program has never been top 5 and the only times it has been in recent history has been under center. There is no doubt that the team hasn't finished as well as hoped in the NCAA tournament recently, nobody is denying that. But there is a massive disregard by vicious vik about how losing kutrovsky and zavala in one year was and then the next year losing corrie and damico as well as andersen turning pro with mladenov transferring. That's two senior captains gone in one year followed by two more senior captains, who played 1 and 2, as well as 3 and 4 gone. People have to step up, not denying that, but over the past two years people have been asked to do things and step into big roles when they have barely seen any playing time before that. With vicious vik's logic of "we are texas" basically every coach except for women's volleyball and mens swimming should be fired. Texas baseball, women's track and field, women's swimming, and maybe even some more should be fired because they have had historically good pasts but haven't done much in recent years. Vicious vik is being a martyr with all this "direction of the program" its been two years that haven't been great, and both of those teams have made it to indoors and been inside the top 10 at some point so its not like they were 30 for an entire year. Again i can't say much for how seasons were finished but vicious vik is acting as if the program has collapsed. And I will give you the idea that maybe enough people haven't stepped up to maintain the top 5 program that CENTER established-which can be tough to admit. Nobody is saying to not be disappointed over the past few years, I'm sure the coaching staff and players are well aware of what's happened and are pissed too. As a side not people like kutrovsky, zavala, diaz barriga, whitehead, sitaram, and now glasspool all got (or are getting) significantly better under center. And that's actually in this window that you are complaining about (not including since center got to texas). But please stop this history of the program nonsense. The history you use to make more than half of your points has been a 3 year period after a finals run. There is no knowledge of the group that it took to get to those unbelievable final fours and final; how good they were coming in, how sometimes recruiting isn't always in your favor for every year-and sometimes it is. Like i said, it's ok to be frustrated, but quit calling people out like you know what you are talking about, what it takes to run a program, how good each person was or is, and all that stuff. You clearly don't know all that much about the whole process of running a program. You just sit behind a computer saying a whole bunch of nothing.
dear Vicious Vic
These kids are going out there everyday and working their butts off for the University Of Texas. Why don't you go ahead and get a real job, and stop going out to the matches (I'm sure everyone there hates you). You are just a massive disgrace to the University. I cannot emphasize enough how much every single person in your life hates you.
First of all I don't go to the matches. I used to. I also don't doubt the players work hard, which obviously you are one of the players because of your words of venom. Please rethink your decision to post hateful words to me,
Internet bullying from one anonymous person to another is counterproductive. While I'm pulling for those kids to improve I am pulling for you to find another approach here.
On a whole different note, I think the Longhorn network does a good job covering/broadcasting tennis. It's better (both in analysis and Camera angles/viewing) than what you got with the the NCAAs.
Not that there are many options, but it is clearly the best place to watch college tennis nowadays.
The Longhorn network does do a good job. Hopefully that can attract some recruits in the near future.
I wish we were playing A&M this year. Ever since they became SEC-billies they try and forget we exist. No matter how disappointing this year's team is Longhorns simply do not lose to to Aggies as Ben Chen demonstrated last year.
You mean the type of guy who would beat USC's top recruit 3 and 3, and take a future-winning top 15 junior to 7-5 in the third?
Goldhoff is one heck of a recruit, maybe even the best in this year's class.
One hesitation about going to a match is the unpleasant experience I had last time I went.
It started with a parking "official" calling back up on me after I cussed him out for telling me to move my car from a parking spot in front of my new girlfriend.
I am conforming that I will be going to Texas vs Baylor.
If any of you reading wish to meet me I will be wearing a Jurassic Park hat and a solid black t shirt. I am of Indian descent. I will also boo Center when the announce his name.
Funny Vik. Will someone please video your booing Center and post it?
Wow, I hope coach Center won't be too devastated by that! But I'm sure the players appreciate your support - you do support the Longhorns right?
Longhorn through and through. I will heckle the Baylor players for sure. Don't those Waco Wacko's to do well.
Do I really need to say anything tonight? Oklahoma has surpassed us as a program. Simple as that. And why did that happen? It's your opinion but I have my answer.
Team success rises and falls over time. Be greatful they're even in the top 20. Lots of teams would love to have their worries.
