I'm going to be around Shatto Park with my rackets around 4-8pm on July 13. I'm 4.0-4.5. Anyone want to hit?

    Please call instead of email.

No, didn't come out. Girlfriend wanted to watch "Bachelorette" and I caved. I was a bit tired. Did you come out? (Thanks for the email invite btw!!!). Do you go to Shatto often? If so, when?

I lived in that area more than 30 years ago. Is Shatto Lanes still there?

That's definitely me. Played for the first time in a while yesterday.
The rust was really thick. Need some wd40 and lots of practice.

Still there, along with their fried goodness pervading the tennis courts. This past week smelled like onion rings/burgers/fries. YUM!

There is another set of courts by the 101 and Glendale blvd. I'm trying to think of other courts in the Mid-Wilshire area, and the only one that comes to mind is the old Ambasador Hotel. Then again that was 30 years ago. ;)

Echo Park. Just a friendly reminder: don't forget to bring your heat when you play down there.

I've never seen anything bad happen, nor have I ever felt unsafe at Shatto Park (possibly because I carry a machete around my waist? I dunno.)

Be weary of parking. If you're parked on the wrong side of the street at the wrong hour your car will be towed.

But aside from that, there's some good hitting at Shatto Park.

btw, what racquet are you using these days?
i moved recently. now closer to downtown and now
    closer to shatto.

btw, for those that haven't played there before. shatto's
courts are probably one of the worst courts i have ever
seen. completely worn out and smooth.

Smooth fast courts? Sounds terrible for my grinding loopy game style. Still, i have it in the back of my mind to get down there and hit with you guys some more.

btw, there are lots of halfway decent courts in LA that are
either sometimes free, free or only have a small fee.
off the top of my head:

    sherman oaks (decent)
griffith park (near the fountain on riverside)
    poinsettia park (ok)
north hollywood park (a little older)
plummer park (some old and some newly resurfaced)
    west hollywood park (good condition)
    la cienega tennis center (name?)
some courts in brentwood, santa monica (decent/gd)

all of the above are in exponentially better condition than shatto, imo.

Oh, thanks for wondering! I've been looking for a frame similar to the i.Prestige but with an open pattern and a tame sweet spot, and the closest thing I can find is the Prestige Pro. I tried the POG OS and I couldn't control the open pattern.

I agree that Shatto Park is pretty worn down/takes time to adjust on, and that there are plenty of other options. But no one said it was the best surface or the best option either.

Alpine, you're at Shatto every night at 7? I'll probably try to stop by next week. I'll even try doubles if there's a lot of people although my serve is weaksauce.

I haven't been playing as often as I'd like to, but you should definitely email/call me before you head out there. The better players come around 5pm though!

There are definitely some decent players there. I do like that
you can just sort of go there and find a game to play in.
Kind of a rare thing in tennis. Wish it was more like basketball
    in that sense.

I'll be there with my C game. That's the best I got right now
until the wd40 gets off all the rust.

    I'll be there as well.

onehandbh, we'll break you into your "A game" real fast. Be prepared for an insurmountable **** talk fest, as well as teasing.

Come to think of it, I'll probably be at my C game as well as I'm planning to bulk up over the weekend. By monday, I'll be sore and slow. But as long as I'm buffed, who cares right?

Just how much will you be bulking up over the weekend?
3500 extra calories = 1 lbs. If you're planning on gaining
4 lbs, you'll have to eat an extra 14,000 calories. have fun.

That's it? Pfffft. I normally eat that much in donuts alone.

But to be honest, the bulk I put on is normally water weight. I just need to lift weights because I feel so frail lately.

Are you going to hit with us until the lights turn off (10:30ish)?

Will try and make it. Mon & Wednesday are no good, but
Tues, Th, or Fri might work. How long is the wait there to
get on a court? Also, does Sam the pirate man still rule the
    courts there?

Shatto park,I used to love that place... another great place to play in LA is called Vermont Canyon, pay to play same as Griffith park but it's close to the Greek Theater adjacent to Roosevelt 9 hole golf coarse ... it's very quiet and the courts are usually in good condition .. lovely place.. if you really want more privacy then go to the set of courts on top...

I might not be able to make it, it is sort of questionable at this point. I just didn't want folks to show up if I don't show. John

I coming out today from about 5-7pm. I've got a red Wilson bag. I'll be hitting with the PDR, Exo3 Graphite 100 (green), or Head FXP Prestige Mid (burgundy). Wanna hit? You should pm me your cell phone number.

Are you coming out on Monday?

You can't stay any longer than 7pm? Around that time, that's when things get started really.

Is anyone playing today after 7pm? Because I have full intentions on showing up today at 7pm. But it would truly suck if no one showed up.
