Lots of crud have developed on the lower wheel of my ball machine. Any suggestions on how to clean it, what types of solvents to use. It's almost like a thick film and I suspect it's the cause for intermittent bad feeds.

Thanks in advance for your responses!

Turpentine is what I would recommend. It's cheap and doesn't harm the environment. Many people think it's just for cleaning paint brushes but it has far many more uses. My dad used to use it to clean pretty much everything. Some people even use it as a furniture polish!

I usually just use soap and hot water with a scouring pad on the moving wheels (running the machine). I've done the same thing with pure acetone and notice no difference between the two. The abrasiveness of the scouring pad does the trick. Wear a sturdy glove and be careful. The wheels need not be visually clean to solve your intermittent feed problem.
