He reminds me of something between Marat Safin and Ernest Gulbis in terms of technique and playing style. He has it all - he is the full package.

Don't get too excited. He's very hot and cold. Has to embrace consistency at some level to truly make his mark.

He has shown a lot of consistency this week - has beaten some quality players ranked well ahead of him - i would like to see him come to net a bit more frequently though

Seems when he was playing Nadal at the AO, he had to put a lot of effort in every shot he hit. Using all the strength he had. He couldn't do that for more than 3 games before he started feeling fatigue.

Hope so, he has improved a lot lately. Seems like he's gaining confidence from where his game is at right now.

He made a great run at the Australian meeting Nadal in the 3rd round. Had to to beat Ljubicic from 2 sets down on his 1st round and then Donald Young on second round, who beat him at the US Open last year. And all that coming from the qualifying.

Yeah, given that he came from qualifying and played some tough matches already to get there that was expected.

Kids got a smooth game, looking forward to see him more.

He looks very ordinary to me. Smooth game but still, nothing that puts him ahead of anybody else on the tour. What does he have that most other players don't? :-? Great serve? Great forehand? Great backhand?

    Great serve - yes
    Great forehand - yes
    Great backhand - yes

Did you see his semi in Zagreb against Baghdatis? His backhand down the line was sublime all match. he hits with raw power and just has a really big game in general - we will be seeing a lot of this guy for the next 10 years

Didn't see the match so have no opinion. Will keep an eye on him. He had a couple of good games against Nadal at the AO a few weeks back. Looked pretty good for a few minutes but I had a feeling he was playing out of his skin and still only able to keep the match level before Nadal crushed him.

He's got game but has many players to jump over to reach top 20. A dangergous floater at the majors? More probable.

Hope to see him play, Ill see if I get a glimpse of his game in youtube. Has a catchy name at least.

At the AO press conference, Nadal spoke well of him, saying Lacko is a great player and is going to be at the top in the near future.

I really liked him when I watched on e of his matches some time ago. Very pleasing to watch, his game.

    How old is he anyway?

No weapons. When you don't have any, you need to be a model of consistency. I don't see that being the case right now, however I have limited viewing of him.

Imho lucas has no major weapons but he's a hard worker. Watched him qualify a few times. top 50 prospect, can't see him breaking 20.

I like his game! I think a wildcard to make a few good runs in ATP events, but not consistent enough to ever stay in the top 20

Saw him for the first time playing San Jose last year. He beat Querrey first round through solid play, though Sam played poorly and was easily handled by serve-less Del Potro in the next round. He seemed well-rounded but had no particular strength to get him far in any tournaments. Having watched a bit of his matches at the AO, he's still a lightweight. I don't see any extended stays in the top 50 for the guy.

I think Lacko's got a good game overall, not much holes as far as strokes go.
He could improve his slice and net game though, he is mostly a baseliner.

His backhand is good, but I think his serve and specially his forehand are his greater weapons.

His forehand is certainly a weapon, he can hit very big from that side.

I think top 20 is a good goal for Lacko, there are many talents in there so breaking that barrier and possibly staying there is where he should be aiming for I think. To find his place there, and start to be respected as one of the big dogs around.

If he can reach this goal then next the sky is the limit, but so far top 20 is the max I can see from his game, at least currently. Maybe top 15, hard to see anything beyond that.

Think he will be a good player. Not great, but a good one.

It's always fun to follow good ones too, not only the greats.

Well, as I've seen in Zagreb Indoors he has a lot of potential. The win against Baghdatis showed up this, but I think that top20 is too much for his actual game.

Gulbis has much much much much more potential than Lacko!

Yeah, Gulbis has Chuck Norris levels of potential. But he will never tap into it on a consistent basis, he's too rich to even mind playing tennis. :(

Gulbis/Nadal at Rome 2010 was a fun match.:) Gulbis tried to be too cute on the court though with his rather fancy shotmaking. Hitting silly droppers at the worst times or trying to paint the lines from silly positions. Give this guy the motivation of Djokovic! :) What a waste of talent!

He such a waste of talent.....it disgusting thinking about it. I guess a 250 title here and there when he gets on a hot streak ......the guy should be make the 4th round of a slam once a year.

Totally understated, Kish! This guy was Fed level talent at corresponding career stages but, unlike Rogi, never has grasped what a great player he could have become. Fed made 4th round Wimby as a teenager and upset a mighty champion. Gulbis could have produced similar results but has chosen not to reach for the sky. A total tennis tragedy.

    This is 100% correct.

Tennis for Ernest Gulbis is just a thing to do while the bank process another billions...

I can't believe Gulbis actually has wins over Federer and Djokovic.
He can actually retire with hardly having won anything in his career and half-assing through most of it but still brag that he whipped Grand Slam champions Federer, Djokovic and Del Potro.
