No idea of the exact date, but reasonably soon I suspect.

A few players/coaches were given this string in retail packets by the Wilson rep (rather than as an unmarked test string), so I suspect its just a case of Luxilon building up sufficient manufacturing volume for retail distribution by Wilson.

I see and feel absolutely no difference between luxilons "smooth" and "rough" strings. They just deform smooth string a little and claim that its better for spin, nonsense.

This might be something here. suspect it will still be Low powered string. but lower the tension to get some more power and it has extra spin and that same great control. This could be start of something special

    ricki,

i just played the alu power rough side by side with the regular alu power and i can tell you that there is quite a difference. the rough grabs the ball better and if you have a topspin-centered game you get quite a lot more spin AND control out of it. the ball seems to be slipping over the stringbed with the smooth alu power - now don't get me wrong, there is still good spin i can generate with the smooth one, but the rough is a level above. in between you find the alu power spin which i'm soon gonna report about, but the rough is, for my game!!!, definitely the best from this "family".

    Hi Torres,

Thanks for the great info. The rough will address one of the issues folks seem to have using it in the mains. I hear it makes a wonderful cross with natty gut.

    Thanks Torres!
Yeah, I think this could help 4G's biggest problem, its lack of spin. If it has good bite, it could really be a top-notch string!

I agree completely. The Rough version is no gimmick. I do think that the process of crimping affects feel. The Rough doesn't quite feel as elastic. A Rough version of 4G would be a nice option.

It's a nice string (4G regular) and I'm willing to try this version, but the color is a turn-off imo. Like a dull-colored Pro Hurricane Tour. How do the other Luxilon strings stack up to 4G in terms of tension maintenance, especially Big Banger Original?

In the Pure Drive 12' its one of my favourite strings to put on. Ive tried it as a full bed and as a hybrid. I liked it better in the hybrid on the mains with Babolat Xcel in the crosses. I string it pretty high 59/57 lbs, and i get good control which is important to me cause PD's have a lot of power, when i use it i can do a full swing without the ball going out. It also lasts a little longer than most polys. The only thing i dont like about the 4G is that i dont get as much spin as i would like, so i hope this 4G rough can add a bit more spin.
