Before his friendly match against Sampras, Marat Safin made a great comment in one of his interviews. Here is what happend:

Interviewer," Who are the three best players in tennis history?"

    Safin," Borg, Sampras and Nadal"

    Interviewr," Federer?."

Safin," I thought you said players from planet earth."

    :)

    Witty indeed.

What Federer has done is not possible by earthly tools available.

It is rather a unique combination of genes given to him, or gifts from Gods, if they exist.

Now, sometimes I ask myself a question:

Which is greater? The guy who gets to where he wants to be by pure determination, hard work and sacrifices whatever he has for it, or the guy who gets there easier because he has been given more talent?

The answer is always the same. I appreciate the hard worker, but celebrate the uniqueness of a once in a lifetime talent.

If you have ever been to a classic car auction you know how it goes. The car that sells for the highest price is not the one that has more power, runs faster or has no imperfections. It's the one with fewer, or none, duplicates.

It is possible Safin genuinely does not think Federer is top 3 all-time, and did not want to make it a big deal when the interview cried.

At age 25 who had the most achievements? Probably Nadal and Borg.

Safin thinks Federer is the best. He's said it many times when asked the question (as he's played both Sampras and Federer relatively close to their peaks)

If I recall properly, he used to refer to Federer as The Federer, mainly because of his ridiculous skill, and Safin has nothing but respect for the guy, and has said a few times how he wished he wouldve had the career of Federer.

Safin said Nadal is better than Djokovic? This would be a terrible blow for DjokovicForTheWin. Please delete this thread before she sees it.

The comment about Federer is classy. Typical Safin, well done.

Why are you so obsessed about me? Of course Safin said Nadal is better overall at this point in time. Djoker will surpass Nadal easily since he's superior to him on all counts.

He's left it late, plus he needs his speed. Djokovic will crap his pants trying to defend his points from this year. looking foward to you disapearing too.

Doesn't he trail Nadal by the same number of slams Nadal trails Fed? Isn't Nadal older than Djoker?

Nadal turned 25 in 2011 and Djokovic turned 24, and Federer turned 30.

Right so here's what I get from that:

Nadal trails by 6 slams his age is 25.
Djoker trails by 6 slams his age is 24.

    You choose.

One year is no age gap, unless they are clones. Nadal leads the h2h and has less 'off' years so the future favors Nadal.

Hmmm how can 1 year not be an age gap? Isn't no age gap when they are the same age? So Nadal leads H2H and after all those slam wins still only leads Djoker by the same amount he trails Fed. Djoker is younger and owns Nadal now. Best bet is on Djoker to surpass Nadal.

Nadal has had more 'injury' years though. He couldn't even play the 2008 Tour Finals nor defend his Wimbledon crown in 2009. And, similar to Djokovic, he retired or got injured in 2 Slams (AO 2010, 2011). The race is fairly tight.

I don't think it was a serious answer. Safin's probably too laid back to put too much thought and weigh it seriously before answering. I would guess his answer reflects the current year where Fed is not on everyone's radar, and when reminded, his overall opinion of Fed.

I'm not obsessed about you. I just dislike idiots in general, especially hateful idiots. Instead of enjoying Djoker's awesome year all you can do is bash Nadal. That makes you a hateful idiot.

As for Djoker easily surpassing Nadal, good luck with that. Only 6 slams to go, 1 Olympic Gold, and 9 Masters (and whatever Nadal achieves from now on.)

Even mama Djokovic would be a little more cautious than you loudmouth.

Olympics are meaningless. Djoker already has more Master's this year than Nadal has ever won in a year. He's well on his way. The only thing that is hateful is all your name calling. But hey if it makes you feel superior then go for it.

What's this have to do with Federer? It has to do with 2 guys who need to get 6 more slams. One is a year younger.

I'm not calling you names. I'm describing your behavior. Anybody can verify that be seeing your multiple posts in which you concentrate on bashing Nadal. Love of Djokovic is only a side effect of your hate for Nadal, I'm starting to believe.

6 slams is the difference between Fed and Nadal and Nadal and Djoker.

And while Bullzilla was ridiculous, why was he banned but Trollforthewin wasn't? Makes no sense to me since they are practically one and the same.

But you forget that 6 is only the difference if the guy ahead does't win any more slams. So if Nadal actually fails winning 6 but still wins 3 or 4, then Djoker needs to win 9 or 10.

I can't believe I had to explain this to you. A 3 year old would have figured it out already.

'12 WILL be interesting bcoz there will be a lot on the line...the fragile egos propagating Tardism in every TT thread. Life will return to a pleasant atmosphere when we can agree we are all very fortunate to be spectators to a very awesome triumverate of talents. Sorry, Muzzatards, for not including you...he needs a major first and, my limited vocabulary does not include the word for a fearless foursome (quadroverate?).

    Nice try...

In at least one way the Olympic Gold in singles is more valuable than a slam because its played only once every four years.

Federer himself wants desperately to win the Olympic singles gold in 2012!

If you want to evaluate all players after the open era into a rank, then it's unfair to consider Olympics. All players from the open era had access to slams and WTF, but not olympics. Therefore olympics are meaningless. QED.
