do you know why rios hasn't played any senior events this year?
anyone know the answer to my question? looks like Bruguera is the new Rios of the senior tour, he's winning everything.
where is rios, still hasn't played this year?
He was supposed to have a one-shot ATP comeback at the Vina Del Mar event in Chile this past spring, but withdrew due to injury. It has sidelined him from playing most of this year.
He wants too much money & the European seniors tour is having difficulty putting bums on seats that's why there there are less events this year.
That's a shame. I was under the impression that the seniors tour was more successful than the old Connors one. There just isn't the market for seniors tennis except on this board which represents a very...VERY small...AND unrealistic segment of the tennis fan population. Looks like golf will always be the only "legit" seniors venture going on in the sports world. It helps that lots of aging men take up golf thus ensuring them a good sized fan population.
Rios is probably injured again as he was pretty excited about playing last year. Bruguera recently said that he's even playing better than he did when he retired now and he doesn't know why or where the sudden burst of good form came from...it just came.
Just goes to show that often times the key to playing better has to do with simply not worrying about it and going out and having fun. I think a lot of pros are foiled by stressing it too much, which just ends up constricting their flow up too much. I think Jana Novotna would have made a great seniors player. There really isn't a tour for senior's women's tennis, I wonder if any of them are p-ee-sed? Then again, there IS that other thing women are supposed to do...something trivial called motherhood.
Men meanwhile never exit their prime, like my main man, B. Becker, for example.
I agree with you, on the brighter side The Outback tour in the US is running on all cylinders & is a much better model, so there is hope yet.
It's also run by Jim Courier's company so maybe he has it to his heart & it's just not anoter event by the monster company of sports....well tennis anyway !
