Did anyone listen to Howard Stern this morning? He played a phony call from Sal the Stockbroker to Gary the ******, where he used a sound board of Gary's voice to talk to himself. So Gary got in a fight with himself over who was really Gary the ******.
This thread reminds me of that call.

Plenty does, Morpheus. That isn't the only "look" out there. Take Anna K.-an E. European gal and an acknowledged real looker. Maria also has, I noticed, a small head in proportion to the rest of her body but maybe it will grow. She's only 17, you know...

Pound Cat - Sarah Jessica is certainly homely and a bit scrawney, but I'd hit it all the same.

As for the TENNIS, well I watched as much of that match as I could and Maria, even though she won, stunk up the place royally. Couldn't hit an inside-out forehand to save her life and she was playing a fairly mediocre player-Sugiyama-who relies on consistency and fitness but has NOTHING in the stroke dept. Lots of sprayed balls. And another thing...is it my imagination, or does Sharpova let out her blood-curdling scream AFTER the ball has actually left her racquet? Even on balls that she didn't touch, but ran for, she screamed. She also messes around with the ball boys/girls; she's taken over first place on my list of "most annoying" player, passing Agassi and Hewitt in the process.

Way overrated in the looks dept.-horny teenage boys, please note...there's better out there, but then again, you don't know any better yet.

The hype machine's getting to you, eh, Phil? Give the kid break, she's only 17... got a lot more improvement to do. Not her fault the networks are always trying to build up the "next big thing." Although I don't blame you, what with all these obssessed kids and their relentless professions of love.

Aonex - I don't think she played very well yesterday. A win is a win, but she would never get away with such sloppy play against Serena Williams and, if she's on, Davenport. We'll see...looks like just another big bashing babe to me. The same stuff said here today was said a couple years ago about Huntuchonova and Dementieva. Cookie cutter East Block players, all of them.

As for hype, don't blame the networks 100%; the players normally fall right into this-with their bahavior and way of dress. It ruined Kournikova-as a tennis player that is.

I only got to see the last set on NBC, and she seemed to be playing better. She's got a great serve though, so that might set her apart from the rest of the E. Euro players. I'm guessing that the more experience she gets, the less UE's she'll have in late round matches.

I agree that the players have a lot to do with their own image, and that's pretty obvious when you'd see pictures of these girls practicing with nothing but a sports bra and biker shorts on (Kournikova, Hantuchova). You could tell that they enjoyed being in the spotlight and that probably led to their failures in tennis. Worrying about what outfit to wear for the photographers was probably more important than who their next opponents were.

So far though, Maria hasn't done any of that. Only time will tell if she follows the same path, but for the moment, she seems like a nice kid and is saying all the right things about not wanting to be a "tennis babe." If she succumbs, then that's that. But, I'd like to give her the benefit of the doubt for now.

BTW, in her post match interview, Maria was asked what she was wearing around her neck. Maria said it was a cross and that she always wears one, since she was little. They asked her if it was a superstition and she said no,no,no. Obviously, she is a good girl and probably a practicing Russian Orthodox Christian. LOVE YOU MARIA, YOU'RE THE BEST.

Also MaSha, Juss cuz she wears a cross around her neck dont mean a thing, untill she says somthing in a newsconference. Glad that she won yest., but will never be able to beat Serena in the Finals of they meet up there. Maria is HOT HOT HOT and there is no denying it.

I'm watching Maria play Lindsey and I must say that I don't believe Maria has a chance against Serena. She just doesn't have the game. Maybe in a few years.

And her voice (during the interview) was the most squeaky, obnoxious thing I've every encountered. Very unattractive. The rest of her is okay, though, so she got that going for her.

Remember, She's from Russia. So she wont speak as well, and i saw her speak too and she was definetly nervous. Wen she lost the first game, Davenport was looking so dominent, bur Maria came bak. Her serve needs to improve though, as she has too many double faults in her serves. But it is still a wicked serve, reaching up to 107mph. Just because she doesnt speak well dont mean that she ain't appealing to the eyes.

Dude, she wasn't nervous... that's just her voice. I don't see what's wrong with it... at least she doesn't sound like a man.

She's as American as Apple Pie having grown up playing tennis in Florida. There is no hint of an accent. Shrill, immature, and inarticulate. Sounds just like the kids that hang at the local mall in Anywhere, USA.

where do you get off calling her immature? how many of those mall rats left their own country, leaving her mother behind with only $700 in their collective pockets to try and survive in a new land? she was then whisked off to orlando and another camp with no one to talk too. she said that one thing she would never do despite the fact she was so lonely and missed her mother was that she wouldnt cry. that sounds pretty damn mature to me...inarticulate? i wonder how articulate serena would sound trying to speak russian? she needs to master english first...

I think Maria Sharapova is a strong-willed and talented person. She may be a little young, but in a few years, I see a really great player. And someone states that since she's from Russia, she won't speak as well, but she's been in the States since 9 years old (am I right?), so I'm sure she speaks perfectly well.

Mileslong. Please try to focus and read the above carefully.

Nowhere did I say Maria was a Mall Rat. I said her dialect sounds like a typcial American kid, not that of a Russian immigrant. Her VOICE is shrill and immature, meaning she is young and squeaky, not sultry and demure. I do not dispute that she has done remarkable things in her short life, but I do believe she is not yet on par with Serena Williams on the tennis court. Maybe she'll prove me wrong, but I doubt it.

Haha, this discussion is hilarious. But her maturity is nothing. When I came to America with my parents we had a total of 70$, so in your face Maria. I agree, she is beautiful and awesome but frankly I'd be a little scared of some of you more obsessive guys out there.
