i don't know if i agree with you guys. she has pretty broad shoulders and hits pretty hard. also moves well, better than a lot of the "ripped" types you guys are harping on about.
also, none of you has addressed the federer vs lolo physique comparison. thoughts?

She's a world-class player in a world-wide sport. She's accomplished more than you probably ever will and has worked very hard to do so!

Yep. Another thing lost on Nikdom is berating people and making them feel worse than they already do is not productive in any way. This is bullying behavior, and one would expect more out of what is purported to be a grown adult. Nikdom's feigned concern about someone's elses weight is really just badly hidden judgemental disgust.
Also, if we go by Nikdom's beliefs, we could go up to someone and tell them their face is ugly and that they should do something about it. There are a myriad of plastic surgery options these days so they have no excuse to walk around so hideous.
No offense but Bartoli has always freaked me out. She has all those wacko mannerisms and I don't know how any of her opponents can stand her theatrical gesticulations between each point (and on receiving position). It would drive me nuts and it looks like borderline cheating to me (intimidation/distracting attempts?). Despite her dad being a doc, she's also never seemed that fit . Then again, she's not the only one in WTA. She's just the weirdest case by a long shot.
The same thing can be said for Nadal, who has plenty of wacko mannerisms himself.
I agree with some of the other posters women bodies ARE DIFFERENT than men's bodies. A male athlete can train extremely hard he doesn't menstruate. For women athletes they have to be more careful and cautious with their training. I wonder if people realize this? Women have more body fat then men this is a FACT! Also, women menstruate, if a woman is doing excessive working out to the point she loses too much body fat it can hurt her menstruation cycle.
Some women athletes who over do the training really affects their menstration cycle and hurts them.
I remember Jelena Jankovic saying she was having menstrual cramps during a tennis match against Melanie Oudin and the male tennis writers attacked her. Women tennis players go through so much, you just imagine having menstrual cramps while playing a match! Yes, there is medication to deal with menstrual cramps doesn't mean it lets all the pain go away. I think Justine Henin pulled out of the 2006 Australian Open final against Amelie Mauresmo due to having menstrual cramps. Henin said she had a stomach ache but I don't bye it I think it was something more personal but she didn't want to elaborate because she knew the tennis writers especially the men would attack her.
This is sad to hear because the last time I saw Bartoli when I watched the US OPEN match between her and Sharapova she looked to be the best shape of her life. Bartoli has indeed lost weight sad that she's gained some back.
I doubt its either; no one would be intimidated by Bartoli, and if anything, they look down on her bizarre physical movements, as being the product of....
..her father believing all that makes Bartoli...Bartoli, is some some sort of master plan...that's failed to turn into a majors title so far.

Point is that unless you actually have experience with world-class tennis you're probably not in a position to know whether Bartoli's current physique is harming her game and whether or not she would be well-served to devote training time to getting thinner.
It's not that different from saying that Federer needs to use a bigger racquet. "Who the heck are you tell Fed what racquet to use" is an appropriate response to that criticism, and not really an ad hominem.
I gained 13 lbs. from Dec1.
But if she feels better playing at 150 than 139, she's fine.
She doesn't need model points.

They should shut down this whole forum then! Why are you here? You're telling me you've not made a single statement on this forum that you're qualified to make, based on the standards mentioned above. The whole "General Pro Player" section should be restricted to actual pros then.
I've been as reasonable about the fitness issue as possible by making reasonable arguments. I haven't made fun of some player's non-athlete wife or made crude jokes about Bartoli's physique.
The responses to this have been more telling.

I also don't understand how some of these WTA players are content looking so sloppy.
I believe in taking care of myself and a balanced diet and rigorous exercise routine. In the morning if my face is a little puffy I'll put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches. I can do 1000 now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial mask which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.

In addition to the others mentioned, Azaranka is also looking newly thicker. They have the means to be fitter, they just don't have the inclination, IMO.
There are a bunch of women tennis players that would die if they had to play 5 sets.

Stosur might have a MALE athletic body.
But all the other's have a female athletic body.
My Dec weather was split between 50 day, 42 nights, with 2 weeks of 82 degree days, 74 degree nights in PR.
Now it's back to 48 degree days, 35 degree nights, perfect tennis weather.
Serena and Petkovic for sure. Most of the other girls are in great shape, maybe not super low body fat but thats tough to get in an endurance sport like tennis. It's a few outliers like Kvitova and Bartoli that make the rest of them look bad.
Your PR weather seems perfect for tennis. Never felt the sun as strong as PR and St. Lucia during the summer.

Stosur might have the most muscular shoulders and biceps in the ATP or WTA. She is jacked.
I think Sam Stosur is TOO muscular though and I think it hurts her movement she seems too slow to me when she moves around the court.

Goerges is beautiful, but i wouldn't call her build athletic, by the OP's or this thread's standards. she has curves in the right places, i.e. no six pack and no veins across her shoulders.

If only Azarenka would take the advice of the 3.5s on the TT forums, she might really be able to make something of herself. Maybe we should all chip in and buy her some p90x DVDs to help get the message across.
I think the point being made is more WTA players are lesser inclined to work on diet and fitness, because in their game the gaps in talent, skill sets and mentality are much more obvious, and they can rely on those.
ATP is much much closer, and the men have to eke out every ounce from their bodies just to stay competitive. Someone like Nalandian who ignores fitness is justly punished for it. Serena or Azarenka can put on 20lb and still beat up most of the field without much trouble. A top 10 guy can't afford this luxury.

Women bodies are different than men bodies so you cannot compare the two. Women athletes have to worry about not excessive training which can affect their menstrual cycle. Also, women have more body fat than men.
Yes, female tennis players should be fit since they pro athletes but you should not compare men to women because of biological differences.
