?

Will Ernests Gulbis make it past the second round of an event this year?

  1. Yes, of course!

    62.8%
  2. No!

    37.2%
  1. Ernests Gulbis will make it past the second round of a tournament this year.

He hasn't gotten past the second round of an event since his quarter-final run at the ATP Masters Series in Cincinnati, which was in late July of 2008.

Do you think he can do it?

I know he isn't a top-ranked player, but I still think he deserves a thread here.

    :( :)

This is an obvious answer. He does it already, while he's a great player not to mention improving, I think it's certain.

Wouldn't he have to take out Murray to get to the 3rd round?

    #12

  13. Yeah, unfortunately.....it should be a good match.....if Gulbis wins his first round match......

While I don't think the OP's prediction will happen, I give him/her credit for having the stones to make an actual prediction, beyond most people's "predictions" of a Murray-Federer final and a Roddick-Murray semifinal.

I went with a big ol' no. Nothing against him, but unless he is playing some backwoods tournament off the map, I just can't see it happening this year.

Last year there was a thread claiming he would be #1 in 2008 with what titles he would win to be 1.

So i guess, if the pundits of TT say so, a 3rd round should be no sweat.

This guy can be extremely dangerous when he's on. Last year at the US Open against Roddick, in the first set, he made Roddick's first serve seem like a liability.

Shot wise, he doesn't have any weak shots. All of his shots are massive. He has great touch as well.

It just kills me that consistency is holding him back

Are the opposing doubles teams that play against Gulbis/Safin issued hard hats and bulletproof vests?

  26. Well, Ernests finally won back to back matches.......in doubles! :)

Not yet in singles, though. The first and second round losing streak continues. :(

  34. Gulbis and Tursunov are in the doubles final at Indianapolis!!!!!!!!

They've won their three matches 11-9, 10-8, and 10-8 in the deciding tiebreakers (no third set).

Hopefully this gives Gulbis some confidence. :)

I really like Gulbis, and somehow hope he gets his head game on solid tracks so he can really get rolling. He has such great strokes.

  38. Check out Ernests' fansite. It was started in mid-2008. There's a lot of great articles.....one for every match.

He will get to a 3rd round of some event. Maybe even the US Open, though he doesn't have the best history as far as easy draws go.

What is Donald Young's ATP ranking? Why would he be in the USO main draw? If he plays fantastic tennis next month maybe he can qualify for the Bronx challenger.

Young will probably be given a wild card to the U.S Open. He usually is. Then again they have stopped giving him wild cards of late so it isnt a certainty this year like years past.

  47. LMAO, that's hilarious!

Mr. Young is currently ranked 163.
