I think Nadal will win it.

oh my god that will be amazing!!!!!!!!!
i think nadal will win, seeing as he was the only person to take a set off Roger on grass, and since Roger finds it harder to take a set of Rafa on Clay...omg match of the millenium ..PERIOD
oh my God, if Roger lost that he'd be suicidle!

Nadal will win since he has an unfair advantage over ball speeds.

This is will be a scrappy poor quality match where each player fails to find any real rhythm. I just hope there are raising money for a good cause as the concept in itself is ridulous and will make entertaining viewing at best and chaos if it works not so well.

Your right! Gras court shoes stop you from sliding on clay. I actually like that! In fact Agassi & Coria wore grass court shoes at the FO until it was made illegal because it tore up the courts.

How is Nadal going to deal with pivoting rather than sliding? Maybe they will allow a break to change shoes?

I don't know whats the big deal about all this.. they both will play very carefully trying not to get injuried since movement is very different on clay vs grass.. it is interesting concept but match of the century? please. Just fun exhibition.

The guy on the clay side will have an easier time. I think this match doesn't make much sense for tennis fans. It's great promotion though

this is kinda dumb, theres no advantage to being on the grass side, the ball just comes at you faster

Yea, whoever is serving from the clay side is going to have some fun, while being on the grass side is going to be hell. Being on the grass side, you just have to continuously keep the ball deep and with enough pace/spin to not allow that guy on clay to rip the ball during rallies. Also, if the 1st serve percentage from the grass side isn't high enough or not placed well enough from either player, I think we're going to see quite a few break-point opportunities. Just my guess, though, as far as strategy goes.

Any guesses on number of shanks? hehe :)

Nadal, playing on the grass side, is going to hit SERIOUS topspin forehands to Fed's backhand, to avoid the swiss attacking him, in order to prevail from that surface.

IMHO, such a match should be conducted neither in UK, no in France, but somwhere in the border between, better in the tunnel between.

But why not to suggest even more diversified version , each quarter of the court is like at AO, USO, W and FO respectively, and a winner is becoming full Grand slam winner and the GOAT immediately.

Federer should win this. On grass, Nadal's topspin wouldn't bother him too much though he will lose most of the games on that side. However, he should eke out one game per set when he's on grass. On clay, he will have more time to set up his strokes and Nadal won't be able to grind on grass.
Nadal should win comfortably on the clay side but as his topsin strokes won't bounce much on the grass, he will likely lose one game per set. On the grass, he won't be able to set up his strokes and therefore Fed will have the advantage.
This will play out like a video game where the person playing on the nearside has the advantage.

I doubt Nadal is going to hit heavy topspin on his forehand when he's on the clay side (attacking grass) the same way he hits his forehand on clay. He'll probably flatten it out, and we'll see lots of slice backhands.

But seriously, when you have clay stuck on your sweaty socks and you change your shoes 10-20 times – it makes the right formula for getting blisters. If you play on clay, you would know what I am talking about; it would be uncomfortable to play while you feel the clay grinding in your socks.

To add to the ridiculousness/excitement (depending on your view) of this whole thing, why don't they just wear one of each shoe, one clay, one grass.

Does anyone else find it silly that they play on this kind of court, as if it provides neutrality, only to have it in Nadal's small island home (which has some beautiful places, if you've never been, FYI).

MONTE CARLO, Monaco -- World No. 1 Roger Federer expects to have fun when he meets closest rival Rafael Nadal on a hybrid clay/grass court next month in Mallorca.

    Wins By Court Surface
    Federer Nadal
    Clay 0 5*
    Hard 2 2
    Grass 1 0
    * beat Federer in 2006, 2007 Monte Carlo finals
The match, called the "battle of the surfaces," will take place in Mallorca's Palma Arena on May 2.

"It's exciting. The idea was there six or nine months ago," Federer told a news conference at the Monte Carlo Masters Series.

"I said it would be fun to do something like this. It never happened before," added Federer, who has won the last four Wimbledon singles titles.

"It might seem crazy, especially at this time of the season but we also enjoy playing tennis for fun.

"It does not always have to be serious. The result is not the most important, it's more about having fun out there."

Federer is the undisputable king of grass, while two-time French Open champion Nadal is on a record 67-match winning streak on the slow clay surface. Nadal defeated Federer on Sunday for his third-straight Monte Carlo Masters title.

Last year, the Spaniard beat Federer in the final of the French Open only for the dominant Swiss to claim his fourth Wimbledon crown by taming Nadal at the All England Club.

The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this report.

This match means nothing in the grand scheme, just like the last exhibition they played after TMC Shanghai. If Fed wins, he's no closer to beating Nadal on clay and if Nadal wins he's no closer on grass. They are just going to have fun and make money in the process.

If one player is doing poorly, the other will let him in the match. That's the point of an exhibition. I can't believe people are concerned with results here.
