This is hardly surprising news. Her best days are clearly long behind her and she is no longer even an outside contender to win slams whereas she was a major contender to win slams from 2004-2006 and a dark horse for them ever since 1999. I suspect we wont see her back unless she plays a few farewell events in France. A shame she didnt win more than 2 slams as she had the talent to win more.

That's sad news. :( I hope she will at least consider a doubles career. If not then I wish her the best.

I was rather expecting this. It is sad, but she had a wonderful career. And, yes, doubles would certainly be a way to keep one foot in without the constant pressure/failures of singles. Maybe a way to ease into retirement.

She had the talent to do more than she did...but sadly she did not have the mindset. In the end though the tour would be better than it is if she were at her 2004-2006 level right now. But she would retire having accomplished more than most do on the tour, so she would have a lot to look back on proudly.

    And rightly so..

She hasn't had success for a long time now and she isn't as good anymore as she used to be. Beautiful game though, but that beautiful game isn't that effective anymore. Same goes for Schnyder.. I expect her too to be thinking about retiring.

yes. she had surgery (appendix?), then came back too soon and tore something in her abdomen. Maybe a few others. This year she was healthy, but she couldn't really put it together again.

She is at the end of the year I think. I remember reading something a while back that this is her last year on the tour.

Didn't know that.. thanks for the info. It was kind of obvious though.. She is barely winning matches and doesn't look motivated anymore.

This is not surprising considering she's no longer the dominant player that was back in 2006.

Even after her injuries, she lost to a bunch of lesser players in a pathetic era (Mid 2007-Mid 2009) so I doubt she can win anything at this point now.

Sad, but she wasn't really a factor anymore. I guess it's hard for her to see herself like this after the heights she's hit.

Hopefully she won't be forgotten too soon.
