Just heard him on BBC2, in an interview. When asked who he would prefer to play, Roger or Rafa? He replied "I find Rafa's game boring and predictable, you know its going to be physical and he will try to wear you down or if your lucky you might just sneak out a win. With Roger its totally different, he comes up with shots you have never seen before and you never know what to expect. so I prefer to play Roger, he is amazing to watch."

Ljubcheck also said something along those lines but he said he prefers to play Rafa because he knows what to expect and after a few games you can figure Rafa out.

I think its very accurate description of both their games. Federer is a master shotmaker while Nadal is a an amazing counter puncher and fighter.

(The key being, Federer is easier to beat and doesn't physically hurt the opponent)

We've known this all along. But you can't speak up for fear of being called a hater. Rafa's a great guy, just love him, his humility, his never-die attitude, etc.

But his game is boring as hell.

Anyway, now Max will be crucified by TW poasters ... just see

it need not be physical v Rafa, the opponent has the option of hitting more winners if they're good enough.

Max is right. Nadal's game is boring. He's the first #1 since the mid 90s that I cant be bothered to watch playing.

I'd like to know whether this downgrades Rafa's claim to GOAT ???

Surely a leading doubles player with Major titles should count. He has more creds than anyone on this forum, and those bogus article writers.

This is a serious dent on Rafa's claim to greatness.

Mirnyi is a doubles guy who cant maintain a rally longer than 2 shots, he wouldnt be able to appreciate rallies longer than 3 shots.

Its kind of like a beginner chess player with 10 hours experience trying to appreciate chess moves of a chess grandmaster.

I don't get that criticism at all.

He doesn't look as smooth as Federer doing it, but Nadal is one of the most incredible shot makers in the game today.

We could simplify every statement made in history to this, but then it would be a bit boring wouldn't it! It's not a bad opinion either, let's be honest the majority of tennis followers find his game boring.

My favourite memory of Mirnyi was Kuerten beating him from 2 sets down at the 2001 US Open, a third round night match. That was the match where Kuerten's hip started seriously bothering him. Mirnyi also won the 2000 US Open men's doubles title with Lleyton Hewitt.

As for his opinions on Nadal and his game, I like watching Nadal wear down an opponent with his physical game and his determination to win. I prefer that style to that of a tennis genius like Federer.

It's amazing how many disparaging articles/interviews/ threads have popped up in the wake of the Roland Garros final. Why is it so difficult for these tards to comprehend that their favorite player;the most talented player in history is owned time and time again by a "moonballing", "grinding", "monkey" with an "ugly" game.....

time to stop the pity party...

well to each their own. Even if nadal's game is boring, it doesn't take away from how great of a player he is. I personally do find nadal's game boring. I'm sure there are people who find fed's game boring as well. I don't think this is that big of a deal imo. I don't know why people are getting so defensive and insulting Mirnyi

(For a player who had to play against Rafa, I cannot imagine anything more boring than playing a guy who makes you run like crazy until your legs are dead. I can understand why that would be boring. It would be boring in terms of it being 'no fun' and pure torture)

    Great post.
Nadal is one of my favorites, and Federer is one of my favorites. Yes, Nadal IS (or can be) kind of boring at times. Federer is never boring. That doesn't make Federer better than Nadal. Boring can win.
Mirnyi has the right to his opinion, and we have the right to disagree with it. In this case, he is onto something. He isn't saying "Nadal is bad" he is saying "Nadal is boring".

(I find Federer's game more boring than most players, because nearly every time I see him play he's hitting into the net. Unforced errors are boring. Constructing a point in a crafty manner without giving it away cheaply is not boring)

I find his game boring when he's not playing well especially on hard court. But i wouldn't say Federer is never boring, "shots that we never saw before... blablabla"... heu... that's shots we saw from him for years, even if they are great i'm sometimes bored.

This is funny because Mirnyi has been a doubles specialist for some years now. Max and Rafa have only met twice, with Rafa winning both. 2004 in Dubai and 2007 in Queens.

If he is talking about Rafa's doubles game, that is far from boring. I watched two matches with him and Lopez at IW. Often times, Lopez had no idea where Rafa would be on the court (Lopez anticipating him to move to typical doubles positions and Rafa floating around like a singles player).

Quite entertaining. Even more so because they made it to the semi's (losing to Fed and Wawa.....who lost in the finals to the most "singles doubles team" I have ever seen in Dolgop and X-man.....those guys were hilarious. They made early Venus and Serena look like doubles experts at times).

Although I sometimes find his game boring when Rafa plays too much defensive on clay.

Also Roger, when he has many easy error.

On a more serious note, I do like Nadal's work ethic and attitude to tennis off the court.

He's a hard worker and doesn't get ahead of himself. Plays point for point.

I don't like seeing all of this in fruition on the tennis court however, because my eyes start bleeding when he gets into a baseline rally.
