Just out of curiosity..why don't you keep the ball hopper closer to you on the side of the baseline?

I've been clocked at 115, but that's because I don't go for huge serves. I could go bigger. I mostly go for placement and kick serves. If you listen to one of those serves. You can hear the sound of me hitting a can of balls. I'm all about placement because a well placed serve will give me the chance of seeing a good volley come back.

It's just habit. I'm not really sure why I do that. I guess because I just don't like it near me and it gives me the sense that I'm playing in a match because I don't see the hopper immediately in my view.

Wowwwww... Really nice form. You've got kind of a hint of the Andy Roddick little jerk in the serve, and I must tell you it looks better than his. Man, I wish I could serve like that...

Nice motion. Up top you almost look like Sampras until you begin the toss. If I had to guess, I would say those serves were high 90's to low 100's.

Thanks. Yeah, that website is freakin cool. I found it on someone's webpage. I like it better than youtube because it plays automatically when you click the link and if you embed it it will automatically play as well. Also you can upload bigger files there, whereas there is a limit on youtube. I will post a new serving clip that I shot from above so you guys can see where the serves land in the box. And as soon as I have time and can find a willing participant I will post some clips of a tennis match.

As a lowly 4.0, 115 would be a huge serve for me! You've got a nice, smooth service motion, btw.

Yeah, I figured I kinda had the Sampras motion but I wasn't sure how close it was to the actual motion. And your estimation of the serve speed sounds about right. I rarely if ever go for big serves. I mean a 115mph slice serve out wide is very lethal if place correctly.

very nice serve.. I think you have a very simple and smooth form, plus you look like a big guy, so that ball must come heavy. I'd like to see what you look like when you come in with it during a match. thanks for posting.

Kind of looks like you could have a little more shoulder rotation, but damn man you serve very nice. Better than me!

I'm the same way. I'm mostly a spot server. I only try to serve really big when I'm playing somebody exceptionally good. I've been clocked at 117 mph (in a booth at US Open using a clunky extended racket and no warm up) but I'd be surprised if I ever serve faster than 105 or so in most matches.

Out of the 4 serves I hit on that clip, 2 hit the tape. They were the last two. And the first two went in with 1 of them hitting the target that I set up.

nice form, i really like your style. And I agree, placement is sooo much more important than power. Not only that, but better gauges where you are as a player, to be able to put the ball where you want at will with enough pace.

    Placement is everything IMO!
That's why it's possible to hit 88mph second serve aces.

5.0 to 5.5 right now. Strong 5.5 to very weak 6.0 when I'm playing regularly. I can confidently say 5.5 because I played a guy who wins 5.5 tournaments with some regularity in So Cal and I beat him pretty badly.

35ft6. I'd like to play you. Do you ever come to Santa Barbara? We'd probably have an enjoyable match.

Same with you Edberg505. Although the only time i find myself in NM is when i'm skiing Taos or Santa Fe Basin. Several of your serves on the vid looked tasty, like in the wheel house tasty, but that was cool when you beaned the out wide corner target. I often find that if the target is actually placed ON the corner, that a ball hitting it would actually be a little bit out.

Wow, 5.5. Impressive. You'd defintely give me a run for my money. I'm slightly out of shape as I don't play as regularly as I should.

When were you last in NM? This past ski season was pretty crappy. But a year ago I went to Santa Fe. That's pretty much the only one I go to since Taos doesn't allow snowboarders. And it would be cool to play you. Wheel house eh? lol, I'd like to play against you. I actually like my serves coming back with intrest because I can just react to those; it's those damn floaters that I can't stand, esp if I'm playing against a fast player. I give them way too many opportunities to pass me.

I put it on the roof of the building.;) It was about 11pm when I recorded that. I will try tomorrow to video tape a match. I think I found someone to play against. We usually have pretty good matches so I'll try to record and post that ASAP.

I used to use luxilon but I stopped because I just couldn't get used to the feel and because that string is pretty expensive. I may give it ago again. I use a hybrid, babolat ballistic poly 17 main and wilson stamina 17 on the crosses.

    Guess I'm saying I exist:

    5.0 ----5.5-- 6.0

Where the dashes are, depending on how much I play. I have a pretty no-frills playing style so I don't fluctuate as much as some, maybe. Most people who hit with me are surprised when we play a match and I beat them pretty easily. For one thing, I could use some better hitting partners, but I have the kind of game that makes people feel like they beat themselves rather than me having beat them.

That would be great...btw, i dont know if anybody has mentioned this so far, but your wind up on your serve looks almost identical to sampras' serve...except for the contact and leg motion.

Yeah, It's crazy how Sampras can get that much power on his serve without bringing his legs together. I've tried to copy it and I just can't do it. One of a kind. Now Edberg on the other hand. I can do his no problem. In fact I may post a clip of that too. Hehe.

Unfortunately with the wind blowing and my forgetting to turn off the auto focus. I don't really have much. Most of it is really blurry. I have a few, very, very short points. LOL. I mean like me hitting return winners or him hitting some good shots. But I will post the what I can tonight. On Saturday I should have some good footage. And I will post more on Sat.
